Job summary

Santos Limited in Brisbane is seeking a Cost Control Analyst who will provide financial support to Midstream and Energy Solutions. You’ll focus on OPEX planning, forecasting, monitoring and reporting, ensuring accurate transactions and strong cost visibility across the portfolio.

Qualifications

• Experience in cost engineering or cost controller capacity.
• Experience with SAP, Fieldglass, Prism and Power BI.
• Effective communication and time-management skills.
• Strong reporting and analytical skills, with the ability to manipulate complex data and conduct data-driven analysis.
• Proficiency in data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or SQL.
• Proven experience with Excel, including pivot tables, and financial modelling.

Responsibilities

• OPEX budgeting and forecasting for M&ES O&M.
• Monitor expenditure, variances, cost pressures and optimisation opportunities.
• Process month-end and accruals, ensuring accurate cost recognition.
• Coordinate capital project journaling and WBS with Finance Services.
• Review coding and allocations, coordinate corrections.
• Reconcile SAP and finance data; produce regular OPEX reports.
• Engage with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement and Finance Services to validate expenditure.

What you’ll do:

Responsible for providing cost control and financial support for Midstream and Energy Solutions (M&ES) Operations & Maintenance (O&M), with a primary focus on OPEX planning, forecasting, monitoring and reporting. The position ensures the accurate capture, review and analysis of financial transactions, cost performance and emerging trends, while working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement and Finance Services to strengthen cost visibility, forecast accuracy and financial discipline across the M&ES portfolio.

Key accountabilities include:

• OPEX Budgeting and Forecasting: Support annual budgets and maintain rolling three-month forecasts, incorporating actuals, commitments, accruals, work activity and operational changes.
• Cost Control and Variance Management: Monitor expenditure against budgets and forecasts, identify variances, trends, cost pressures and optimisation opportunities, and provide clear commentary.
• Month-End and Accruals: Review transactions, open purchase orders, service entries and commitments to ensure accurate accruals, reversals and period-end cost recognition.
• Capital Project Journaling: Identify capital-related O&M costs, coordinate WBS journals with Finance Services, and reconcile resulting OPEX and capital positions.
• Cost Allocation and Coding: Review coding and allocations, identify misallocated expenditure and coordinate corrections to the appropriate cost centre, work order, project or account.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Reconcile SAP and finance data and produce regular OPEX reports covering actuals, commitments, accruals, forecasts, budgets and variances.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Work with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement and Finance Services to validate expenditure, forecast assumptions, accruals and upcoming work.

What you’ll bring:

To succeed in this role, you'll need a strong foundation in cost engineering or cost control, supported by the following skills and experience:

• Experience in cost engineering or cost controller capacity
• Experience with SAP, Fieldglass, Prism and Power BI
• Effective communication and time-management skills
• Strong reporting and analytical skills, with the ability to manipulate complex data and conduct data-driven analysis.
• Proficiency in data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or SQL
• Proven experience with Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, and financial modelling
