Job summary

Queensland Corrective Services – Numinbah Valley QLD is seeking a Mental Health Adviser (Counsellor) to join a multidisciplinary team within a correctional centre. You will conduct mental health screening, provide welfare support, and deliver evidence-based interventions to offenders.

The role includes case management, referrals to internal and external stakeholders, maintaining accurate records in IOMS, and contributing to offender rehabilitation and community safety.

Qualifications

• Screen offenders for mental health, disability, and suicide risk.
• Provide welfare support and referrals as required.
• Deliver individual or group-based interventions to develop coping skills.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation for offenders.

Responsibilities

• Screen offenders for mental health, disability, and suicide risk.
• Complete referrals as required to internal and external stakeholders.
• Respond to offender requests for support in relation to welfare needs and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Deliver individual or group-based brief, skill acquisition focused interventions to build coping skills.
• Provide case management to individuals with mental health or other vulnerabilities with proper documentation.
• Engage in evidence-based practice relevant to offender rehabilitation and safety.
