Job summary

TAL Australia is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic guidance across life insurance and regulatory matters. You will help steer product development, negotiate commercial terms, and ensure regulatory compliance while collaborating with a diverse, high-performing team in a supportive environment.

The role focuses on risk-based decision-making, industry engagement, and delivering practical legal solutions that protect TAL's interests and benefit customers across Australia.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with strong regulatory experience in financial services.
• 5+ years PQE in financial services regulatory work.
• Excellent written communication and drafting abilities; can simplify complex issues.
• Strong commercial judgement with balanced risk and business outcomes.
• Capable of managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Collaborative, approachable style with a commitment to knowledge sharing.
• Curiosity, adaptability and proactive approach to industry developments.

In This Role You Will

Qualifications

• Admitted legal practitioner with 5+ years' post qualification experience
• Strong knowledge of financial services regulation, including life insurance and consumer protection frameworks
• Excellent written communication and drafting skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues
• Sound commercial judgement and a balanced approach to legal risk and business outcomes
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic and evolving environment
• Collaborative, approachable style with a genuine commitment to knowledge sharing and team success
• Curiosity, adaptability and a proactive approach to industry developments and continuous learning
