Job summary

Talent Quarter in Newcastle is seeking experienced cooks and chefs for flexible casual work across multiple aged care facilities. You will prepare nutritious meals, maintain clean kitchens and work with a supportive recruitment team to secure ongoing casual shifts.

Ideal candidates have at least 6 months of Cook/Chef experience, knowledge of dietary requirements, and up-to-date vaccinations. NDIs and police checks are required, with strong attention to safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months cooking experience, preferably in aged care or high-volume catering.
• Knowledge of food safety and safe handling practices.
• Understanding dietary requirements and allergies.
• Current NDIS clearance.
• Current National Police Check.
• Evidence of up-to-date vaccinations.
• Full Australian work rights.
• Relevant cookery qualifications are highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals per menus and dietary needs.
• Ensure food safety, hygiene and infection control.
• Assist with menu prep, portion control and plating.
• Work with kitchen and care staff to maintain on-time service.

About the role

You will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for aged care residents while maintaining a safe, clean and organised kitchen environment.

Your duties may include:

• Preparing and cooking meals in accordance with menus and dietary requirements

• Catering for residents with specialised dietary needs, allergies and texture-modified diets

• Maintaining food safety, hygiene and infection control standards

• Assisting with menu preparation, portion control and meal presentation

• Working collaboratively with kitchen and care staff

• Ensuring meals are prepared and served on time

What we’re looking for

• Previous experience working as a Cook or Chef, preferably in aged care, healthcare or a similar high-volume catering environment - minimum of 6 months

• Knowledge of food safety and safe food handling practices

• An understanding of special dietary requirements and food allergies

• Current NDIS clearance

• Current National Police Check

• Evidence of up to date vaccinations

• Full Autralian work rights

• Relevant qualifications in commercial cookery are highly regarded
