Job description

Contract Human Factors Engineer
Location: Cambridge | Hybrid
Duration: 3-month contract
Rate: up to £500 perday

We’re looking for an experienced Human Factors Engineer to join a client of ours on a short-term contract, working on usability studies for advanced medical devices.

This is a hands‑on, study‑focused role. You’ll be involved in the full study cycle, from planning and running sessions as a moderator or observer, through to analysing the data and writing up clear, actionable reports. There’s a formative study coming up that looks at cleaning and reprocessing workflows with existing users, so you’ll be out in the field with real users, working closely with a colleague on the study while paticipant recruitment and venues are already taken care of. There’s no need to learn a complex clinical system, as the focus is on the study itself.

You’ll be joining an experienced, well-established usability team made up entirely of human factors engineers, each comfortable in any study role, who are already working to established quality procedures aligned with FDA guidance.

What You’ll Bring
  • Proven, hands‑on human factors experience on medical devices (this isn’t a role for someone new to the field)
  • A track record running usability study sessions as a moderator, an observer, or both
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to turn session feedback into clear findings and practical recommendations
  • Experience planning studies and writing protocols and reports to a high, regulation‑ready standard
  • Good working knowledge of FDA expectations for human factors work
  • Excellent communication and attention to detail, with the confidence to join an established team quickly
  • Availability for a full week or more of fieldwork, including preparation and dry runs either side
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
Also Valued
  • Experience with medical device reprocessing
  • Time spent in a hospital or theatre environment, or a good understanding of anatomy and clinical procedures
  • A consultancy background

If you want a focused, short‑term contract with a friendly, experienced team, this could be a great fit.
