Elective Recruitment is seeking a Staff Specialist/Senior Staff Specialist in South East Queensland for a Deputy Clinical Director role focused on clinical governance and service improvement. The position combines 0.5 FTE medical leadership with 0.5 FTE clinical psychiatry, delivering governance time while maintaining clinical practice.
You will report to the Clinical Director and work with multidisciplinary leaders to set priorities and drive improvements, including participation in after-hours
You will join a large public Mental Health and Specialist Service in South East Queensland as a permanent Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist, holding the Deputy Clinical Director role for clinical governance and service improvement for the first three years. The position is split into 0.5 FTE senior medical leadership and 0.5 FTE clinical psychiatry, giving you protected time for governance work while maintaining your clinical practice. In the leadership role you will report to the Clinical Director and work alongside the medical workforce lead, the Director of Nursing, Medical Directors and multidisciplinary leaders, using clinical risk data, patient outcomes, audit and review findings to set priorities and deliver measurable improvements in care. Clinically, you will provide specialist psychiatry support across the service and contribute to an established culture of medical education and teaching. The role includes participation in an after-hours on-call roster, private practice rights are granted, and at the end of the three-year term you retain your permanent consultant position within the service.
You will be based in a major coastal city in South East Queensland, around an hour’s drive from Brisbane. Life outside work centres on the outdoors: long stretches of patrolled surf beaches, a subtropical climate with mild winters, and national park hinterland with rainforest walks, waterfalls and wineries a short drive away. The city has a well-established dining scene, from beachside cafes to restaurant precincts, along with major sporting and entertainment venues. Families have a wide choice of public and independent schools, and the city's universities, health sector and business community offer education and career options for a partner. Housing ranges from coastal apartments to family homes in quieter suburbs and the hinterland, and is generally more affordable than Sydney. The city has its own airport with domestic and international flights, and Brisbane International Airport is easily reached by road or rail.
Remuneration is set under the Queensland Health Medical Officers' Certified Agreement, with a base salary of $225,305 to $260,864 at Staff Specialist level and $268,430 to $284,318 at Senior Staff Specialist level. On top of this you will receive up to 12.75% superannuation, an attraction and retention incentive allowance under granted private practice arrangements, a professional development allowance of over $22,000 with 3.6 weeks of professional development leave, a motor vehicle allowance, and on-call and overtime allowances. The estimated total package is $389,000 to $485,000 per annum, before on-call and overtime earnings.
