Job summary

SALHN seeks a Consultant Ophthalmologist (Oculoplastic) to join the Ophthalmology Unit at Flinders Medical Centre. You will specialize in oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal disorders, while contributing to general ophthalmology care, outpatient and inpatient services, and research initiatives.

You will participate in after-hours on-call, mentor registrars, and support teaching and quality improvement within the unit. Fellowship and eligibility are required.

Qualifications

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) or equivalent.
  • Eligibility for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Experience in general ophthalmology with oculoplastic focus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist assessment and management of oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal conditions.
  • Deliver general ophthalmology care across varied clinical settings.
  • Perform elective and emergency ophthalmic surgery.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call roster.

Join our Ophthalmology Team!

An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with expertise in Oculoplastic to join the Ophthalmology Unit at Flinders Medical Centre. The successful applicant will provide specialist ophthalmology services with a focus on oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal disorders, while also contributing to comprehensive general ophthalmology services. The role includes outpatient and inpatient care, surgery, participation in the after-hours on-call roster, teaching and supervision of trainees, and involvement in research, quality improvement and service development activities.

About the role:

The Consultant Ophthalmologist (Oculoplastic) will:

  • Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal conditions.
  • Deliver comprehensive general ophthalmology care across a range of clinical settings.
  • Perform elective and emergency ophthalmic surgical procedures.
  • Participate in the Ophthalmology after-hours and on-call roster.
  • Supervise and support ophthalmology registrars and other junior medical staff.
  • Contribute to research, teaching, clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives within the Ophthalmology Unit.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), or equivalent specialist qualifications.
  • Eligibility for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Broad experience in general ophthalmology and demonstrated expertise in oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal disorders.
  • Strong communication, leadership and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to teaching, quality improvement and delivering high-quality patient-centred care.
