Job summary

Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services in Batemans Bay NSW is seeking a Community Programs Team Member (Identified*) to deliver the Strong Families Strong Communities programs and engage youth aged 10–25 in diverse settings, including community, home, and schools.

The role collaborates with other services to improve safety and wellbeing, delivering culturally sensitive activities, events and education while upholding child protection standards and reporting

Qualifications

• Certificate IV or higher in Community Services or equivalent.
• Experience working with Aboriginal communities or within an Aboriginal organisation.
• Experience providing one-on-one support to clients with complex issues (e.g., abuse, racism, substance abuse, homelessness).
• Experience in facilitating groups, conducting community events, or running programs.
• Knowledge of child protection requirements relating to community work.
• Knowledge and understanding of strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches.
• Understanding of the issues and barriers impacting safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
• Confirmation of Aboriginality.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate community education initiatives, events, and activities to support wellbeing and safety of Aboriginal people.
• Coordinate and deliver group programs to vulnerable Aboriginal community groups in need of support.
• Participate in interagency networks and committees to improve community outcomes.
• Provide one-on-one support to Aboriginal youth to improve safety and wellbeing (advocacy, case work, outreach and referrals).
• Deliver support using strengths-based trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches.
• Sign up clients eligible for a Work Development Order (WDO) and coordinate WDO activities.
• Monitor attendance, maintain data, provide weekly reports, and assist WDO clients as required.
• Maintain understanding of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting obligations.
• Ensure Strong Families Strong Communities targets and KPIs are met.

Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services (Katungul) is a community-controlled organisation dedicated to improving the health, wellbeing and social outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Bega Valley Shire and Eurobodalla Shire regions of NSW. About the role

This is a Full Time fixed term to 30 June 2027 position based in Batemans Bay NSW, with Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services. The Community Programs Team Member will deliver the Strong Families Strong Communities programs through the provision of culturally sensitive activities, events, groups and community education.

With a particular focus on youth aged 10 – 25 years and working in a range of settings including community, in the home and/or schools the Community Programs Team Member will work collaboratively with other services/individuals to improve community safety and wellbeing.

*This role is only open to applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Being an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational qualification required to undertake this role and is authorised in Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

What you'll be doing

1. Community education and group work

• Develop and coordinate community education initiatives, events, and activities that support the wellbeing and safety of Aboriginal people.
• Coordinate and/or deliver group programs to vulnerable Aboriginal community groups who need support including children, youth, the elderly, Aboriginal families, and isolated people.
• Participate in interagency networks and committees to improve community outcomes.

2. Youth work

• Provide one-on-one support services to Aboriginal youth to improve safety and wellbeing. Service delivery may include information, advocacy, case work, drop-in assistance, outreach and home visiting, personal and practical assistance, and referral.
• Deliver support to clients using strengths-based trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches.
• Role model and reinforce safety through clear boundaries and expectations.
• Sign up clients who are eligible for a Work Development Order (WDO).
• Monitor attendance, maintain relevant data, provide assistance to WDO clients as required, submit weekly reports.
• Coordinate and supervise the work and activities to be undertaken by members participating in the WDO Program.

4. Accountability

• Maintain a working understanding of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting obligations and uphold this in all work with children and young people.
• Ensure that Strong Families Strong Communities targets and KPI’s are achieved in line with funding agreements.

What we're looking for
