Employment Type: Temporary Full Time (parental leave - 12mths)

  • Temporary full-time, 35 hours per week for up to 12 months (possibility for extension due to parental leave)
  • Salary from $3,744.17 - $4,052.95 per fortnight + 12% superannuation

Council’s small and highly skilled Communications team provides communications, engagement and marketing support and advice to teams across the organisation. The team is responsible for the development and distribution of a range of digital and print communications and marketing materials and campaigns to positively promote Council’s programs, events and initiatives, as well as delivering on a range of community engagement activities to ensure our community are consulted on key projects, opportunities and issues that affect them.

About the role:

We’re seeking an experienced Communications Officer to join our highly productive team. This position will be responsible for the implementation of strategic communications initiatives to support the management of communications and media opportunities and issues.

You will work with teams across the organisation to plan, research and prepare content for a wide range of communication platforms. Your exceptional writing and research skills, combined with your creativity and demonstrated experience with communication strategies will support the promotion of Council’s initiatives, programs and reputation.

Maintaining effective working relationships with key media contacts, internal teams and stakeholders is essential. Some out of hours work may be required for this position.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, public relations and/or extensive relevant job-related experience.
  • Demonstrated media liaison skills and ability to proactively seek positive media and photographic opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated capacity to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate and implement effective proactive communication and media strategies.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • A strong commitment to customer service.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

  • Current Class C driver’s licence.
