Job summary

Eastern Health is seeking a Communications Manager to lead the strategic direction and delivery of communications across its Statewide Services in Victoria. You will work with clinicians, researchers and sector leaders to create lasting impact in addiction and mental health services.

You will oversee media, digital communications, stakeholder engagement and internal comms, building strong relationships and providing expert advice to senior leaders across a large, matrixed organisation.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience leading and managing communications functions within a complex organisation.
Proven ability to develop and implement strategic communications, media and stakeholder engagement plans that deliver measurable outcomes.
Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
Strong leadership capabilities, including coaching, mentoring and developing high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to drive strategic communications for Victoria's leading centres of excellence in addiction and mental health, working alongside respected clinicians, researchers and sector leaders to create lasting impact.

Statewide Services comprises Turning Point, Hamilton Centre and Spectrum, three leading Victorian services dedicated to improving outcomes for people affected by addiction, personality disorders and complex trauma, and complex care needs. Through clinical service delivery, research, education, workforce development and system leadership, these services support communities across Victoria and nationally.

As the Communications Manager, you will lead the strategic direction and delivery of communications across Statewide Services. You will be responsible for preparing communication, and developing and implementing innovative communication strategies that strengthen engagement, enhance organisational reputation and increase awareness of the services' impact. Working across media, digital channels, stakeholder engagement and internal communications, you will ensure consistent, high-quality messaging that supports organisational priorities and reaches diverse audiences.

This leadership role involves managing a communications team, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and providing expert communications advice to senior leaders. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that improves health and wellbeing outcomes for individuals, families and communities across Victoria.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

A tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline.

Demonstrated experience leading and managing communications functions within a complex organisation.

Proven ability to develop and implement strategic communications, media and stakeholder engagement plans that deliver measurable outcomes.

Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and audience-appropriate content.

Strong leadership capabilities, including experience coaching, mentoring and developing high-performing teams.

Extensive stakeholder management experience, with the ability to build trusted relationships across a broad range of internal and external partners.

Demonstrated expertise in media relations, digital communications, social media management and content development.

Strong analytical skills with experience measuring, evaluating and reporting on communication performance and impact.

Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

A commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and delivering high-quality outcomes.

Experience in the health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, gambling, public health or not-for-profit sectors.

Experience delivering health promotion, advocacy or social impact campaigns.

Understanding of the Victorian public health, research or higher education sectors.

Experience working within a large, matrix-managed organisation.

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.

Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
