Job summary

Birdon is seeking a Commissioning Engineer and Field Service Representative based in our Port Macquarie shipyard. This full-time role supports test, verification and general engineering activities across defence, maritime and energy sectors.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, create test procedures, review designs, and coordinate with production and suppliers to ensure commissioning sequencing and compliance. Strong communication and 5+ years in field representation are preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills balancing technical, operational and commercial considerations.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities with stakeholder engagement experience.
• Familiarity with design software, simulation tools, and project management methodologies.
• 5 years experience in field representation as primary technical point of contact.
• Proactive commercial aptitude and ability to develop system documents and reporting.
• Formal training in leadership or organizational change management.
• Ability to develop technical documents and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Examine customer requirements and support development, design and integration activities ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and technical requirements.
• Create and review test procedures to verify compliance to contractual, regulatory and technical requirements.
• Collaborating with approval authorities and suppliers to get the test plans approved.
• Create and contribute to the development of contract deliverable data items in the Engineering and Verification disciplines.
• Contribute to the process of tracing, tracking and verification of requirements.
• Review design, supporting documentation and understand the installation procedures.
• Collaborate with design leads and understand any surveillance points required.
• Review manuals and collaborate with suppliers to confirm hold point.
• Create and execute commissioning plans and procedures.
• Collaborate with production and Project team to ensure commissioning sequencing can be achieved.
• Verification of vehicle system operations (Level 2 - Integration testing support)
• Preparation of commissioning records, test records, defect reports, and technical documentation.
• Support the test and trials program as key interface point between Engineering, Project and Production to ensure support in place.
• Promoting quality, environmental responsibility & safety within the workplace.
