Job summary

The Star Sydney is recruiting a Commis Chef to join our award-winning hospitality team. The role supports the Sous Chef and focuses on flawless product execution, safety, and culinary excellence in a fast-paced kitchen.

You will work across fine and casual dining settings, assist with cooking and prep, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the station. This is an exciting opportunity to grow within a premier entertainment and dining destination.

Qualifications

• Experience in fine dining or casual dining environments.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher is required.
• Ability to train and coach junior staff while maintaining high safety and hygiene standards.

Responsibilities

• Support the assigned section as directed by the Sous Chef.
• Assist with fundamental cooking and food preparation tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and workstations.
• Complete duties in line with hygiene requirements and safety standards.

The Commis Chef reports directly to the Sous Chef and offers an energetic and exciting hands-on approach to flawless product execution in an environment focused on safety and culinary excellence. A few of your responsibilities:

• Support the assigned section as directed by the Sous Chef and provide training to junior staff members.
• Assist with fundamental cooking and food preparation tasks
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and workstations
• Complete all duties in line with company and statutory hygiene requirements
• Meet requirements for consistency and high quality in a fast-paced environment

What we are looking for:

• Experience working within fine dining or casual dining settings.
• Experience with one of the following:
  • Woodfire cooking
  • Japanese cuisine (sushi, robata, tempura)
  • Asian & Western cuisines
• Must have a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
