Spotlight Retail Group in South Melbourne is seeking a Commercial Analyst to join our fast-paced team. You will support the Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial, sitting at the intersection of data, strategy, and operations to drive profitability and informed executive decisions.

The role emphasizes forecasting, reporting, and commercial analysis across merchandise, retail operations, and marketing, with a focus on enhancing reporting frameworks and data integrity through Power BI and ERP

Qualifications

• 2+ years in Commercial Analyst/FP&A/Financial Analyst roles in retail or fast-paced multi-site environments.
• Tertiary degree in Finance, Accounting or Commerce; CA/CPA qualified or working towards.
• Advanced Excel modelling, Power BI proficiency, ERP/POS exposure (SAP/BI preferred).
• Ability to translate data into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Reporting, performance analysis: Extract, cleanse, and consolidate data across SAP/BI, Power BI and POS to deliver weekly/monthly trading reports and management packs.
• Planning and forecasting: Build and maintain store/category level financial models and budgeting cycles.
• Commercial decision support: Analyze promotions, category, supplier profitability; model business cases for store rollouts and capital investments.
• Month-end commentary: Explain variance against budget/forecast with clear leadership-ready narratives.
• Systems stewardship: Partner with IT to enhance Power BI dashboards and automate reporting workflows.

Are you a sharp, commercially-minded Commercial Analyst ready to make a high-impact move? Spotlight Retail Group—an iconic, Australian-owned global retail powerhouse is seeking an ambitious Commercial Analyst to join our vibrant team in South Melbourne.

Supporting the Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial, you will sit at the intersection of data, strategy, and operations. You'll merge high-level analytical modelling with day-to-day business partnering across merchandise, retail operations, supply chain, and marketing to drive profitability, enhance reporting frameworks, and inform key executive decisions.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Reporting & Performance Analysis: Extract, cleanse, and consolidate data across SAP/BI, Power BI, and POS systems to deliver weekly/monthly trading reports, management packs, and exception reporting on sales, margin, and costs.
• Planning & Forecasting: Build, maintain, and refine financial models covering store/category-level plans, CODB, capital expenditure, and budgeting/forecasting cycles.
• Commercial Decision Support: Conduct promotional, category, and supplier profitability analysis. Model business cases for store rollouts, tenders/RFPs, capital investments, and cost-efficiency initiatives.
• Month-End Commentary: Investigate and explain variance drivers against budget/forecast, delivering clear, commercial narrative for senior leadership and audit-ready documentation.
• Systems Stewardship & Continuous Improvement: Partner with IT and Group Finance to optimise Power BI dashboards, reporting hierarchies, and automated workflows to elevate data integrity.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience: Minimum 2+ years in a similar Commercial Analyst, FP&A, or Financial Analyst role, ideally within Retail, FMCG, or a fast-paced multi-site environment.
• Education & Qualifications: Tertiary degree in Finance, Accounting, or Commerce. CA/CPA qualified (or actively working towards completion).
• Technical Mastery: Advanced Excel financial modelling capabilities, deep proficiency in Power BI, and hands-on experience with ERP/POS systems (SAP/BI experience highly regarded).
• Commercial Acumen: Ability to translate complex datasets into actionable insights and present recommendations confidently to non-finance stakeholders.
