Kolbe Catholic College is seeking a part-time College Counsellor (0.4 FTE) to support student wellbeing across years 7–12. Responsibilities include individual and group counselling, proactive wellbeing programs, and collaboration with families and external professionals.

The role requires tertiary counselling qualifications, knowledge of child development, and a commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and inclusive, trauma-informed support for students.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in counselling.
  • Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Experience counselling school-aged children and/or adolescents.
  • Demonstrated commitment to exceptional ethical and professional standards.
  • Proven capacity to build and maintain strong relationships and effective communication with key stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy school environment.
  • A commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and strong cultural awareness.
  • A current National Criminal Records Check.
  • A current Working with Children Check Card.
  • Generosity of spirit, initiative, enthusiasm, and an ability to remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counselling and targeted wellbeing programs to support students experiencing mental health, emotional, family and social challenges.
  • Develop and implement proactive wellbeing, prevention and social-emotional learning programs that promote student resilience, mental health and self-awareness.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, College leaders, staff and external professionals to develop and coordinate evidence-based interventions and support plans.
  • Manage student cases, referrals and counselling consent processes, maintaining accurate records and appropriate confidentiality.
  • Identify, respond to and report child safety concerns in accordance with mandatory reporting requirements, College policies and relevant legislation, including supporting staff with mandatory reporting.
  • Contribute to the College's broader wellbeing and professional learning initiatives, including staff and parent education, resources and ongoing professional development.
