Zusammenfassung

CSIRO seeks a Cloud Platforms Technical Lead to architect our cloud foundation across AWS, Azure and GCP, guiding security, resilience and automation while mentoring engineers. You will balance strategic vision with hands‑on delivery, stewarding enterprise and research-scale infrastructure with a dotted-line leadership approach and 24x7 security on-call readiness.

You will collaborate with the Team Lead to shape the technical vision and roadmap for the Cloud Platforms Team, and lead architecture

Qualifikationen

• Degree (or equivalent experience) with senior technical leadership in cloud infrastructure.
• Demonstrated deep technical expertise in at least two major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) with proven ability to design and implement complex, multi-cloud infrastructure solutions at enterprise scale.
• Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, including conducting architecture reviews, facilitating technical decisions, and developing team capabilities.
• A solid track record of hands-on technical delivery alongside strategic leadership, maintaining technical credibility while influencing organisational direction.
• Proven ability to foster and maintain effective cross-organisational relationships, representing technical interests in architecture forums and collaborating with senior stakeholders.
• Track record as a technical leader in cloud platform engineering within a research or scientific computing organisation.
• Multiple cloud certifications at professional/expert level across at least two cloud providers.
• Experience with distributed systems design, microservices architecture, and large-scale infrastructure automation.

The opportunity

Joining CSIRO as our Cloud Platforms Technical Lead offers a rare opportunity to architect the cloud foundation that powers groundbreaking scientific research and enterprise operations at Australia's national science agency. As the senior technical authority for the Cloud Platforms Team, you will help shape the overarching technical vision and multi-cloud roadmap across AWS, Azure and GCP to accelerate real-world scientific discovery. Partnering closely with the Team Lead, you will lead proof‑of‑concept initiatives for emerging technologies and set the standards for security, resilience, and DevOps automation across both research and enterprise environments.

Balancing high‑level strategy with hands‑on engineering, you will solve complex architectural challenges while elevating our engineering culture through dedicated mentorship and cross‑disciplinary collaboration. As the successful candidate, you will bring:

A degree (or equivalent experience), in conjunction with demonstrated achievement in senior technical leadership roles in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or IT architecture.

Demonstrated deep technical expertise in at least two major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) with proven ability to design and implement complex, multi‑cloud infrastructure solutions at enterprise scale.

Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy, architecture standards, and engineering practices that drive quality and consistency across a team of cloud platform engineers.

Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, including conducting architecture reviews, facilitating technical decisions, and developing team capabilities.

A solid track record of hands‑on technical delivery alongside strategic leadership, maintaining technical credibility while influencing organisational direction.
