Job description

About the Opportunity

An established Australian enterprise is seeking a hands‑on Cloud Operations Engineer to join its collaborative Digital & Technology team.

This is a role for an experienced Microsoft Azure Engineer who enjoys staying close to the technology, solving operational problems and taking ownership of a business-critical cloud environment.

The environment is predominantly Azure, with some on‑premises infrastructure remaining, but this role is focused mainly on the cloud side. It is not an architecture or management position — it is an execution‑focused engineering role for someone who wants to remain hands‑on and continue broadening their capability.

You’ll work closely with an experienced Cloud Operations Manager and collaborate with specialists across Cloud, Database Services, Integration, Security and project delivery.

The Role

You’ll help keep the Azure environment reliable, secure, observable and cost‑effective, while supporting both existing services and new workloads moving into production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating and supporting Azure infrastructure across networking, identity, compute, storage, backup, monitoring and security.

  • Troubleshooting incidents, connectivity, cloud networking and security issues, including root‑cause analysis and remediation.

  • Building and improving automation using PowerShell, Ansible/AWX, Git, Azure DevOps and Infrastructure as Code.

  • Improving monitoring and observability through Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, alerts, dashboards and workbooks.

  • Supporting SRE‑style operational improvement, cloud security, vulnerability remediation and workload readiness.

  • Contributing to FinOps and cloud cost optimisation, including reviewing consumption and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.

  • Exploring practical uses of AI and AIOps to improve operational analysis, alerting, documentation and automation.

About You

You’ll be a practical, technically capable engineer who enjoys solving problems and improving how environments operate.

We're particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Strong commercial experience supporting Microsoft Azure in production.

  • Broad knowledge of cloud infrastructure, networking, identity, security and operational support.

  • Experience with PowerShell, Ansible and/or Infrastructure as Code.

  • Exposure to monitoring, observability, SRE or DevOps practices.

  • Strong troubleshooting, incident management and root‑cause‑analysis capability.

  • Good communication skills, initiative and the ability to work independently in a small team.

Exposure to FinOps, Defender for Cloud, AIOps, AI-assisted operations or ITIL would be beneficial, but you do not need to be an expert across every area.

This role is particularly suited to someone who wants to remain technically hands‑on, become increasingly autonomous and build broader capability across Cloud Operations.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents with unrestricted working rights. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What’s in It for You?
  • Up to $160,000 base + super.

  • Performance‑based bonus opportunities.

  • Potential longer‑term incentives, subject to eligibility.

  • Two days in the Macquarie Park office – Monday and Wednesday, with three days working remotely.

  • Flexible working arrangements.

  • No formal on‑call roster, with only occasional planned after‑hours work.

  • Supportive, experienced management and a collaborative technical team.

  • Exposure across Azure, automation, SRE, observability, FinOps and emerging AI/AIOps practices.

Interested?

If you're a hands‑on Azure engineer who enjoys cloud operations, troubleshooting, automation and continuous improvement, we’d love to hear from you.
