Job summary

National Heavy Vehicle Regulator is seeking an experienced Cloud Infrastructure Architect to evolve cloud, network and shared infrastructure architectures. You will contribute to roadmaps, standards and guardrails enabling secure, resilient, scalable digital services.

You will lead design of cloud platforms, landing zones, connectivity and shared services, embedding security and resilience. Hybrid work with a clear pathway for architectural leadership in NHVR.

Qualifications

  • Ongoing cloud, network, or enterprise architecture development.

Job description

The Cloud Infrastructure Architect is responsible for evolving the organisation’s cloud, network and shared infrastructure architecture. The role contributes to target architectures, roadmaps, standards, reference patterns and design guardrails that enable secure, resilient, scalable and cost-effective digital services.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Develop Solution Architectures for cloud, network and shared infrastructure translating business, technical and non-functional requirements into implementable designs
  • Contribute to architecture standards, guardrails, reference architectures and reusable patterns for cloud platforms, landing zones, networking, connectivity, identity integration and shared infrastructure services.
  • Embed security-by-design, privacy-by-design and resilience-by-design practices into infrastructure architectures.
  • Identify, document and manage architecture risks, exceptions and technical debt, recommending proportionate treatments, accountable owners and time-bound remediation pathways.
  • Drive consistency and traceability across architecture artefacts, including conceptual and logical models, detailed schematics, decision records, standards, patterns and implementation guidance.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture, cyber security, delivery, engineering and technology operations teams to resolve cross-domain design issues and maintain alignment between cloud, network, security, application and data architectures.
  • Provide authoritative specialist advice and influence architectural decisions with senior leaders, governance forums, delivery teams, operational teams and external service providers.
  • Positively promote and actively role model NHVR values and behaviours.
  • Adhere to all NHVR policies and procedures.
  • Comply with WH&S policies and contribute to a safe and healthy work environment.

Skills and Capabilities (SFIA level indicator)

  • Develop architecture designs for cloud platforms, hybrid infrastructure, shared services and enabling technology capabilities across projects, programs and platforms. SFIA: Solution Architecture (ARCH) - Level 5
  • Design and govern enterprise network architectures, connectivity models, integration patterns and traffic management approaches that support secure, resilient and performant digital services. SFIA: Network Design (NTDS) - Level 5
  • Define cloud landing zones, shared infrastructure services, automation approaches, platform standards and reusable design patterns. SFIA: Systems Design (DESN) - Level 5
  • Embed security, privacy, resilience and recoverability requirements into architecture designs and ensure alignment with enterprise risk and compliance requirements. SFIA: Information Security (SCTY) - Level 4
  • Evaluate infrastructure risks, control effectiveness and regulatory obligations, ensuring appropriate treatments and assurance outcomes are implemented. SFIA: Information Assurance (INAS) - Level 4
  • Design architectures that support automation, observability, supportability, operational acceptance, service continuity and ongoing lifecycle management. SFIA: Systems Integration and Build (SINT) - Level 4

About You

To be successful in this role you will possess

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Demonstrated ongoing professional development in cloud, network, infrastructure or enterprise architecture disciplines.
  • Significant experience leading the design of cloud, network and hybrid infrastructure architectures in medium-to-large enterprise environments.
  • Experience providing authoritative architecture advice and influencing senior stakeholders, governance forums, delivery teams and technology operations.
  • Experience evaluating supplier proposals and technology solutions against enterprise architecture standards and strategic objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Highly Regarded:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Enterprise Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Industry certifications aligned to cloud, infrastructure, networking, cyber security or architecture disciplines (e.g. Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Cisco, TOGAF or equivalent).
  • Experience operating within regulated, government, public sector or critical service environments.
  • Experience supporting cloud transformation, infrastructure modernisation or hybrid-cloud adoption programs.
  • Experience with architecture repositories and enterprise architecture platforms such as LeanIX.

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as the national entity responsible for regulating all vehicles in Australia over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass. The NHVR minimises the compliance burden on the heavy vehicle transport industry, reduces duplication and inconsistences across state and territory borders, and ultimately for the heavy vehicle business with government in Australia.
