Job summary

Datacom is seeking a Cloud Engineer passionate about cloud technology, automation and AI-enabled platforms. The role focuses on Azure environments, secure and scalable cloud solutions, and advancing AI initiatives for enterprise clients.

You will work across cloud operations, automation, platform engineering and customer delivery, helping organisations modernise while building expertise in enterprise AI services and governance.

Qualifications

• Proven cloud engineering or similar experience.
• Solid Azure and cloud environments experience.
• Experience with IaC and automation.
• Scripting knowledge: PowerShell, Python, etc.
• Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and support Azure environments that are secure, scalable and operationally efficient.
• Automate cloud platform provisioning, configuration and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code and modern automation tools.
• Support cloud transformation, migration and modernisation initiatives for customers.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve cloud platform issues while maintaining high levels of customer service and operational excellence.
• Develop and improve automation capabilities across cloud operations and platform delivery.
• Build and maintain cloud platform documentation, operational procedures and knowledge-sharing resources.
• Work closely with architects, engineers and customer stakeholders to deliver reliable cloud solutions.
• Contribute to Azure governance, security, compliance and operational best practices.
• Support the adoption of AI-ready cloud platforms and assist with the deployment of AI-related services and capabilities.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Cloud Engineer who is passionate about cloud technology, automation and the future of AI-enabled platforms.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mid level engineer who already has solid Azure and cloud engineering fundamentals and wants to help customers build, operate and improve modern cloud environments while developing deeper expertise in AI technologies and platforms.

You’ll work across cloud operations, automation, platform engineering and customer delivery, helping organisations modernise their environments through secure, scalable and highly automated Azure solutions. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to emerging AI platform initiatives and build your knowledge of enterprise AI services, governance and automation as part of a growing Cloud and AI practice.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring

• Proven experience working in cloud engineering, cloud operations, platform engineering or infrastructure engineering roles.

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and modern cloud operating environments.

• Experience deploying, managing and supporting cloud infrastructure, networking, identity and security services.

• Strong automation mindset with experience using Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation practices.

• Experience with scripting or programming languages such as PowerShell, Python, C#, JavaScript or similar.

• Understanding of CI/CD practices, DevOps methodologies and cloud-native ways of working.

• Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues across cloud environments.

• Strong understanding of cloud security, governance and operational best practices.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, technical teams and stakeholders.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Experience working within managed services, consulting or customer-facing technology environments.

AI and Emerging Technology Fundamentals

• Foundational knowledge of AI services and modern AI concepts.

• Understanding of enterprise AI technologies such as Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Search or equivalent platforms.

• Awareness of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), large language models and AI-driven automation concepts.

• Understanding of responsible AI principles, security and governance considerations.

• Interest in developing deeper expertise in AI platform engineering, agentic workflows and AI-enabled cloud services.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with Terraform, Bicep or other Infrastructure as Code platforms.

• Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions or modern DevOps toolchains.

• Experience supporting Azure landing zones, platform engineering initiatives or cloud governance frameworks.

• Exposure to Kubernetes, container platforms or cloud-native technologies.

• Experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search or similar AI services.

• Microsoft Azure certifications or equivalent cloud certifications.

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
