Job summary

Bright & Duggan Group is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our engineering team. This contract role involves designing, building and evolving our Google Cloud environment, with emphasis on architecture, automation and continuous improvement.

You will work with Head of Engineering, Product Manager and security/data professionals to deliver scalable, secure cloud solutions and contribute to technical excellence across the organisation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional engineering experience in cloud engineering roles.
• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale environments on Google Cloud.
• Strong understanding of GCP networking, IAM, organisation policy and security fundamentals.
• Extensive experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.

Responsibilities

• Design cloud architecture for distributed and event-driven workloads using services.
• Design architectures for distributed services data, data analytics and A.I. services.
• Build and evolve landing zones, resource hierarchy, VPC networking, IAM and organisation policy foundations.
• Solve complex integration, connectivity and data movement challenges.
• Be responsible for platform scalability, resilience, disaster recovery and long-term maintainability.
• Design, build and maintain secure, scalable enterprise Google Cloud environments.
• Implement and manage infrastructure as code with Terraform across development, test and production.
• Deliver reliable, secure and cost-effective cloud infrastructure.
• Take ownership of environments from design through to ongoing operation.
• Build and operate CI/CD pipelines.
• Apply contemporary cloud engineering, DevOps and SRE practices.
• Utilise AI-assisted tooling to improve productivity and quality.
• Develop and maintain cloud engineering standards, reusable infrastructure as code and reference architectures.
• Champion observability, automation, security and operational excellence in line with Well Architected framework.
• Drive cloud cost visibility and optimisation.

Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is an opportunity to work on significant platform and infrastructure initiatives in a collaborative, engineering-led environment where quality, simplicity, automation and continuous improvement matter.

Working alongside the Head of Engineering, Product Manager, Security specialists, Data professionals and fellow Senior Engineers, you'll help design, build and evolve our Google Cloud environment while contributing to technical excellence across the team. This role offers the opportunity to influence architectural decisions, mentor others and work on complex infrastructure challenges that will have a genuine impact across the organisation.

What You'll Be Working On

Architecture & Platform

• Design cloud architecture for distributed and event-driven workloads using services
• Design architectures for distributed services data, data analytics and A.I. services

Essential

• 10+ years of professional engineering experience in cloud engineering roles
• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale environments on Google Cloud

• Extensive experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering team
• Experience with GKE/Anthos, Cloud Run and container-based workloads
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures (e.g. Pub/Sub)

Highly Desirable

• Experience with modern SpringBoot/Java applications
• Experience with workflow orchestration and automation (e.g. Temporal)
• Experience with Vertex AI, e.g. Document AI, Agent Engine/ADK, AutoML
• Experience with Anthos Config/Service Mesh
• Experience with Memorystore, Spanner, BigQuery and data platform tooling
• Experience with Google Cloud Observability (Cloud Logging, Monitoring, Trace) or equivalent platforms
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and practices
• Experience with cloud governance, compliance and FinOps practices at scale
• Google Cloud certification (Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer)
• Previous experience within PropTech, strata, property, workflow or financial systems environments
