Job summary

Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network is seeking a Clinical Nurse Educator for the Children’s Short Stay Unit (CSSU). This permanent, full-time role involves developing learning opportunities, building clinical capability and ensuring safe, high-quality paediatric care for children and families.

Located at Westmead, the CSSU handles diverse cases with a 32-bed inpatient capacity. The CNE will plan and deliver education across the Network, including graduate programs and mandatory training, and

Clinical Nurse Educator – Children’s Short Stay Unit Are you a passionate Paediatric Nurse who loves developing others and making a difference at the bedside? The Children’s Short Stay Unit (CSSU) is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) to join our dynamic team and help shape the knowledge, confidence and capability of our nursing workforce. As a CNE in CSSU, you will have the opportunity to combine your passion for Paediatric Nursing and clinical education, supporting nurses at all stages of their careers. You will play a key role in creating engaging learning opportunities, building clinical capability and supporting staff to deliver safe, high-quality care to children and their families.

CSSU is a fast-paced and varied Paediatric environment caring for up to 32 patients in an inpatient setting. With a broad clinical caseload, no two days are the same. Our patients are predominantly admitted directly from the Emergency Department and generally have a length of stay of up to 72 hours. Our diverse presentations include respiratory conditions such as bronchiolitis, asthma, pneumonia and COVID, as well as common childhood illnesses including fever, poor feeding, UTIs, gastroenteritis, meningitis and seizures. This diversity provides the ideal environment for a CNE to support nurses to continually develop their paediatric assessment, clinical decision-making and acute care skills.

You will also be involved in planning and delivering education across the Network including Speciality Transitional Programs, New Graduate Programs and Mandatory Organisation training. This is a permanent full-time position of three 12-hour shifts per week, plus one 8-hour shift per four-week roster.

What You'll Be Doing

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) will be responsible for the delivery and evaluation of clinical nursing education. The CNE will work in collaboration with the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) and Nurse Educator (NE) and wider hospital team to develop and implement clinical education relevant to specialities and basic nursing competencies.

The CNE will work collaboratively to support clinical education to others outside the ward/ unit when required.
