Warada is a 28 bed medical ward forRespiratory and Gastroenterology specialities. The acuity of the patientsis diverse across these specialities and includes patients who require invasive diagnostic procedures, non-invasive ventilation therapy, high flow oxygen therapy and tracheostomy management. The nursing team is supported by a Clinical Nurse Consultant, a Clinical Nurse Educator and the Nurse Unit Manager. The Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides clinical leadership and expert respiratory care and clinical advice to patients, carers and health care professionals in relation to complex care needs. Working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and primary care providers, the CNC ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
As a clinical expert and resource for staff, the CNC demonstrates advanced skills and expertise in health assessments, care pathways, advance care planning and on-going symptom management. The CNC ensures the highest standard of care, support and education for respiratory patients at The Sutherland Hospital, providing high-level nursing consultancy and coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes and recovery.The CNC also plays a key role in ensuring that a multidisciplinary discharge plan is an integral component of the care patient care management prior to discharge.
