A regional health department in Tasmania is seeking a Clinical Lead – Surgery to provide strategic leadership and deliver specialist medical care. The ideal candidate will hold specialist registration and be passionate about improving healthcare. Responsibilities include working with the Clinical Director, ensuring high service standards, and leading medical education programs. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead – Surgery to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director – Surgical and Perioperative to assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets. In addition, the Clinical Lead will provide specialist general surgery medical care to patients attending North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), Burnie and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), Latrobe.
The surgical service provides both an on call and consultative service based at the NWRH in addition to consultative services at the MCH, which includes surgical day surgery cases. The current senior staffing consists of full time general surgeons with a supportive team of registrars and JMO’s.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation. Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
