Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead – Surgery to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director – Surgical and Perioperative to assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets. In addition, the Clinical Lead will provide specialist general surgery medical care to patients attending North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), Burnie and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), Latrobe.

The surgical service provides both an on call and consultative service based at the NWRH in addition to consultative services at the MCH, which includes surgical day surgery cases. The current senior staffing consists of full time general surgeons with a supportive team of registrars and JMO’s.

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Details of Appointment

• Fixed Term, day worker, with on call, working 76 hours per fortnight for a period of 3 years. *notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation. Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.

Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.

• Management Allowance Clinical Lead 5% of base salary
• Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
• Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata

Eligibility

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as:

• Holds specialist registration; or
• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
