Job summary

Sante Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Anaesthetist to assume the role of Clinical Director – Anaesthetics in North West Victoria. The position combines leadership with a substantial clinical component across Anaesthetics and ICU, in a collaborative regional team.

You will oversee governance, workforce planning, teaching, and trainee supervision, reporting to the Critical Care leadership.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Anaesthetist or eligibility to obtain registration.
• FANZCA fellowship or eligibility to obtain fellowship.
• Senior Specialist Anaesthetist experience within the Victorian public health system.

Responsibilities

• Chair multidisciplinary departmental meetings.
• Lead recruitment and retention of anaesthetists and ICU specialists.
• Support registrar training and development.
• Provide clinical leadership and workforce planning.
• Oversee clinical governance activities.
• Lead monthly Morbidity & Mortality reviews.
• Contribute to quality assurance and patient safety initiatives.
• Manage budget and cost centre for anaesthetics/ICU.

The Opportunity Sante Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Anaesthetist to take on the role of Clinical Director – Anaesthetics, providing clinical leadership, governance and workforce oversight across an integrated Anaesthetics and ICU service in North West Victoria.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior Anaesthetist looking to combine clinical practice with genuine departmental leadership, while continuing to work within an experienced and collaborative critical care team.
The position incorporates:

• 0.4 FTE non-clinical/leadership responsibilities
• 0.6 FTE clinical practice
• Leadership across Anaesthetics and ICU
• Clinical governance and quality improvement
• Workforce planning and recruitment
• Teaching and supervision of trainees

You will report to the Director of Medical Services – Critical Care Services and work closely with the Clinical Director – ICU, Director of Critical Care and Theatre Manager.
The Role As Clinical Director – Anaesthetics, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Anaesthetics and ICU medical workforce.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Chairing multidisciplinary departmental meetings
• Leading recruitment and retention of Anaesthetists and ICU specialists
• Supporting recruitment and development of registrars
• Providing clinical leadership and workforce planning
• Overseeing clinical governance activities
• Leading monthly Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) reviews
• Contributing to quality assurance and patient safety initiativesl
• Managing the Anaesthetics/ICU medical workforce budget and cost centre
• Supporting service development and clinical innovation
• Working collaboratively with the Clinical Director – ICU
• Providing Senior Specialist Anaesthetist clinical services

The Team Leadership of the Anaesthetics and ICU service is shared between the Clinical Director – Anaesthetics and Clinical Director – ICU, providing a collaborative leadership model.
You will work closely with:

• Theatre Manager
• Anaesthetics and ICU specialists
• ANZCA and CICM trainees
• Nursing and allied health teams

About YouEssential You will have:

• Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Anaesthetist, or eligibility to obtain registration
• FANZCA, or eligibility to obtain Fellowship
• Clinical experience commensurate with a Senior Specialist Anaesthetist in the Victorian public health system
• Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment
• Experience coordinating departmental workload and workforce
• Commitment to ongoing professional development
• Active participation in quality assurance and clinical governance
• Sound understanding of professional, legislative and regulatory requirements within healthcare

Desirable The following would be highly regarded:

• Experience in Intensive Care or High Dependency Unit clinical care
• Previous clinical leadership experience
• Experience in research or governance leadership
• Clinical supervision and teaching experience

Remuneration Remuneration commences at HM40, in accordance with the relevant Victorian public health sector medical specialists' enterprise agreement.
