Job summary

Sirius is seeking a Principal Advisor to step into client-side Design Manager and Technical Manager roles on landmark, $1bn+ high voltage electrical infrastructure projects in Sydney.

Reporting to a Technical Director, you will lead design reviews, manage technical interfaces, and guide sub-consultants to meet quality, schedule and client standards across substations and transmission assets. Hybrid work options available.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering, design or construction management experience on major linear infrastructure projects.
• Major Greenfield or Brownfield infrastructure project delivery experience.
• Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering with HV substation or transmission design experience.
• Understanding of the renewable energy sector, high-voltage networks and government regulatory frameworks.
• Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical decisions to executive decision-makers.

Responsibilities

• Design Oversight & Management: coordinate design reviews for HV transmission lines and substations.
• Network & Technical Interfaces: review NO, EPC, generator and storage designs and specs.
• System & Connection Strategy: assist in resolution of system strength, connection processes and arrangements.
• Sub-consultant & Delivery Management: oversee technical sub-consultants to meet quality and schedule.
• Governance & Stakeholder Engagement: represent project interests across multi-stakeholder groups.

Our client, an Australian infrastructure advisory consultancy is seeking a Principal Advisor to step into a client-side Design Manager and Technical Manager roles on landmark, $1bn+ high voltage electrical infrastructure projects.

Reporting internally to a Technical Director and embedded directly into project environments, you will play a critical technical leadership role in driving the technical management, design review and integration of major high-voltage substation and transmission infrastructure.

This position offers a rare opportunity to transition into or advance within client-side infrastructure advisory, acting as a trusted technical advisor across multi-disciplinary teams, government authorities, major network operators and EPC contractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Design Oversight & Management: Manage and coordinate design reviews for high-voltage transmission line and substation assets in accordance with strict Technical Requirements, ensuring all workflows move seamlessly through delegated reviewers and approvers on schedule.
• Network & Technical Interfaces: Support the review of Network Operator (NO), EPC Contractor, generator, and storage designs, engineering specifications, and equipment standards.
• System & Connection Strategy: Assist the broader project team in resolving complex technical challenges, including system strength determinations, connection processes, and physical connection arrangements.
• Sub-consultant & Delivery Management: Oversee and guide specialist technical sub-consultants and service providers to ensure all project deliverables meet quality, schedule, and client standards.
• Governance & Stakeholder Engagement: Represent project interests across multi-stakeholder working groups, contributing to technical briefing papers, risk registers, and governance reporting within a broader project environment.

Key Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering, design or construction management experience on major linear infrastructure projects.
• Major Project Exposure: Proven track record delivering major Greenfield or Brownfield infrastructure projects.
• Technical Expertise: Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related discipline) with specific background in high-voltage substation or transmission design or construction.
• Sector & Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of the renewable energy sector, high-voltage networks and connections, and government planning/regulatory frameworks.
• Communication & Advisory: Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate complex technical decisions to executive decision-makers.
