Beyond individual claim support, you will build technical capability across the broader claims function through coaching, mentoring, case reviews and knowledge sharing.

Working collaboratively with Claims Consultants and leaders, you will provide clear technical direction, positively influence claim strategy and decision-making, and identify opportunities to strengthen claims practices and capability.

In This Role You Will

  • Act as a subject matter expert in policy interpretation, claims frameworks, relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance on claim strategy, supporting Consultants to identify appropriate pathways and progress claims effectively.
  • Coach and mentor Claims Consultants and Senior Claims Consultants to strengthen technical capability, judgement, decision-making and confidence.
  • Support the development and uplift of delegated authority through targeted coaching, claim reviews and technical guidance.
  • Facilitate case conferences, technical forums and claim strategy discussions to support consistent decision-making and shared learning.
  • Partner with leaders to identify technical capability gaps and establish appropriate coaching, training and development initiatives.
  • Support quality assurance, audit, governance and risk activities and contribute to improvements arising from identified trends or themes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve claims processes, technical guidance and ways of working, contributing to consistent and best-practice claims management.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and relevant external partners, including rehabilitation providers, medical professionals and superannuation fund partners.
Qualifications
  • Significant experience in Group Life Insurance claims, with demonstrated technical expertise across TPD and Income Protection claims.
  • Strong experience managing complex, sensitive and adverse claims and providing sound technical recommendations.
  • Advanced knowledge of life insurance products, policy interpretation, claims assessment principles, relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex information, exercise sound judgement and provide clear, well-reasoned technical direction.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring or developing claims professionals and building technical capability in others.
  • Demonstrated ability to constructively challenge, influence and guide claim strategy and decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear and practical guidance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships across Claims and with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify technical themes, capability gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • A collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the confidence to operate as a trusted technical adviser to Consultants and leaders.
