Job summary

Groundswell Engineers in Newcastle is seeking an experienced Civil Draftsperson to join our employee-owned consultancy. You will prepare civil drawings across earthworks, drainage, roads and utilities, turning design intent into clear, accurate documentation from concept through to construction.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years' drafting experience and a Diploma or Certificate in CAD Drafting, with strong CAD software skills and a collaborative, solutions‑driven mindset.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years' civil drafting experience, ideally within an Australian engineering consultancy.
• A Diploma or Certificate in CAD Drafting, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong proficiency in civil drafting software and documentation workflows.
• A sound understanding of civil design principles, including earthworks, drainage, roads, utilities and general civil infrastructure.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing clear, accurate and high-quality documentation.
• The ability to manage your drafting workload and deliver work in line with project milestones.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic and solutions-focused mindset.
• A willingness to share knowledge and contribute to the continual improvement of our drafting standards and processes.
• Unrestricted Australian work rights at the time of application.

Responsibilities

• Preparing civil drawings and documentation across earthworks, drainage, roads, utilities and general civil infrastructure.
• Turning engineering and design intent into clear, accurate and practical drawings.
• Producing documentation in accordance with Australian Standards, project requirements and client expectations.
• Working closely with engineers, designers, consultants and other project stakeholders.
• Managing drafting tasks across multiple projects and contributing to efficient project delivery.
• Supporting projects across different stages, from concept and approvals through to detailed design and construction.
• Contributing to a collaborative team environment where ideas, knowledge and continuous improvement are encouraged.
