Job summary

Netflix Animation Studios in Sydney, Australia, seeks a Head of Cinematography, Lighting to guide the lighting vision for our upcoming animated feature. You will lead the Lighting department inside NAS, shaping mood, readability, and continuity across shots, while collaborating with Directors, VFX, and production teams.

You will mentor Lighting Supervisors and Artists, drive look development, and refine workflows to ensure high-quality outputs.

Qualifications

Proven leadership in lighting on animated features or high-end VFX projects.
Reel/portfolio demonstrating lighting, mood, color, and cinematic storytelling.
Strong understanding of lighting principles and cinematography.
Experience with industry tools and collaborative pipelines.
Excellent communication and problem-solving in a production setting.

Responsibilities

Define the film's lighting style aligned with the visual direction.
Build a unified cinematic language with camera, lighting and composition.
Lead Lighting Supervisors, Leads and Artists; give creative and technical feedback.
Review lighting work to maintain continuity and quality across sequences.
Coordinate with asset and effects teams to integrate lighting into final images.
Oversee lighting rigs, templates and workflows for consistency and efficiency.
Collaborate on pipeline developments and tool needs for lighting concepts.
Troubleshoot escalated lighting issues with TDs and engineers.
Assist production management with bid, scheduling and tracking milestones.
Foster collaboration, inclusivity and training within the Lighting team.
