Job summary

Yarra Ranges Council is seeking a Childcare Centre Cook for Sherbrooke Family and Childrens Centre to plan menus, prepare meals and ensure nutrition for children from birth to school age. You will collaborate with educators, families and leaders to deliver a safe, inclusive food program.

In this full-time Band 3 role (38 hours per week), you will maintain food safety records, manage ordering and stocks, and support a healthy, cost-effective kitchen that meets dietary and developmental needs.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing and cooking meals in a commercial kitchen or childcare setting.
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices and food safety requirements.
• Experience planning nutritious menus for dietary, cultural and allergy-related needs.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation relating to food safety and kitchen operations.
• Experience managing food ordering, stock control and kitchen supplies cost-effectively.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and daily meal schedules.

Responsibilities

• Plan nutritious weekly menus and prepare meals and snacks.
• Ensure all meals meet dietary, cultural and developmental needs of children from birth to school age.
• Maintain high food safety standards and safety/compliance records.
• Monitor storage, handling practices, equipment and supplies; support cost-effective procurement.
• Collaborate with educators, leaders and families to deliver a safe, inclusive food program.
• Maintain a clean, safe, well-organised kitchen environment.
