Job summary

Howden Saggers Lawyers' is seeking a dedicated Child Protection Lawyer to join our Beenleigh or Ipswich team. You will represent children and families in protection proceedings, provide clear legal guidance, and advocate for the best interests of clients in a collaborative, supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will hold a QLD Practising certificate, have strong court advocacy, and a compassionate, detail-focused approach.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in child protection proceedings and hearings.

  • Collaborate with social workers, psychologists, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in child protection legislation and bring best practices to the team.
  • Contribute to development of legal strategies within the family law team.

Job description

Howden Saggers Lawyers is a specialist criminal law firm with offices in Southport, Beenleigh, and Ipswich.

We are looking to add a reliable and motivated criminal lawyer to join our close-knit team in our Beenleigh or Ipswich office.

The position would suit a self motivated Solicitor, with a high attention to detail.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing their own file load.

Key attributes include the ability to
  • Be independently motivated and able to work without supervision;
  • Have good attention to detail and a strong focus on client care;
  • Be comfortable in Court and able to appear daily.
  • Willingness to participate in Duty Lawyer duties as required.

This position comes with the opportunity for growth, both in salary and experience, with mentoring from our Director and team of Lawyers.

About the role

As a Child Protection Lawyer at Howden Saggers Lawyers', you will play a crucial role in advocating for the rights and wellbeing of children and families. You will provide representation in child protection matters, ensuring the best interests of our clients are safeguarded. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within our collaborative and supportive work environment.

What you'll be doing
  • Representing clients, including parents, guardians, and children, in child protection proceedings and hearings
  • Advising clients on their legal rights and obligations, and guiding them through the child protection system
  • Preparing and presenting compelling legal arguments and evidence to protect the interests of our clients
  • Collaborating with social workers, psychologists, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to child protection cases
  • Staying up-to-date with changes in child protection legislation and regulations, and incorporating them into your practice
  • Contributing to the development of legal strategies and best practices within the family law team
What we're looking for
  • QLD Practicing certificate (or ability to obtain such in a short space of time).
  • QLD drivers licence and access to a vehicle for regional Court attendances.
  • While not mandatory, experience in child protection or family law, with a strong understanding of the relevant legislation and legal processes would be desirable.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to effectively represent clients in court and negotiation settings.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach, with a genuine commitment to protecting the rights and wellbeing of children and families.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the capacity to navigate complex legal and emotional situations
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and maintain positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and other professionals.
  • While not mandatory, a person with a willingness to undertake a small workload in crime, domestic violence, and mental health would also be ideal.
