Operating at the forefront of Australia's carbon market, the organisation delivers large-scale projects across a diverse portfolio and is recognised for its technical expertise, innovation and commitment to achieving positive climate outcomes.

The Role

This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior executive role at the forefront of one of Australia's fastest-evolving sectors.

As Chief Technical Officer, you will lead the technical direction and delivery performance of a complex and growing carbon project portfolio. Sitting on the executive leadership team and reporting to the CEO, you will play a critical role in shaping business strategy, strengthening delivery capabilities and ensuring the organisation remains ahead of industry developments, regulatory requirements and market opportunities. Success in this role will require a balance of strategic thinking, commercial awareness and technical leadership, as you guide teams, influence key stakeholders and drive continuous improvement across project delivery and forecasting functions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Providing executive leadership to a high-performing technical and project delivery team.
  • Championing excellence in carbon project execution, governance and quality outcomes.
  • Lead forecasting and planning activities that support business growth and commercial performance.
  • Maintaining strong oversight of methodology, compliance and regulatory obligations.
  • Building trusted relationships with industry participants, regulators and strategic partners.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance systems, processes and operational efficiency.
  • Contributing to organisational strategy and helping position the business for future growth.

About You

You are a respected leader who combines strong technical capability with sound commercial judgement. You enjoy operating at both strategic and operational levels and have a track record of building capability, leading change and delivering results in complex environments.

Whether your background comes from carbon markets, environmental services, natural resources, sustainability, climate, agriculture or a related technical field, you bring credibility, curiosity and the ability to translate complex information into clear business outcomes. Most importantly, you are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to an organisation delivering practical solutions to climate and sustainability challenges.

Required Skills and Proficiencies

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, Climate Science, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within carbon markets, emissions reduction, climate change, sustainability, environmental management, or closely related sectors.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme, including direct engagement with the Clean Energy Regulator (CER), independent auditors, and scheme compliance requirements.
  • Proven success leading multidisciplinary technical and project teams within complex, highly regulated environments.
  • Strong expertise across the carbon project lifecycle, including project development, delivery, forecasting, risk management, compliance, reporting, and optimisation.
  • Experience managing relationships with government agencies, regulators, auditors, landholders, industry partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to translate complex technical outcomes into strategic business insights, financial value, and investment decisions.
  • Working knowledge of spatial, modelling, analytics, and technology platforms that support carbon project delivery, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build credibility at executive and board level.
  • Experience with Environmental Plantings, Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR), Integrated Farm and Land Management (IFLM), Soil Carbon, Savanna Fire Management or other ACCU methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Australia's Safeguard Mechanism, carbon market policy settings, and emerging nature-based market opportunities.
  • Experience scaling carbon portfolios and leading technical teams through periods of growth and operational maturity.

The Rewards and Culture

This role offers the chance to influence the future direction of a market-leading organisation operating in a sector that is becoming increasingly important to Australia's decarbonisation journey.

You’ll join an experienced executive team, work on projects that deliver tangible environmental outcomes, and help shape the growth and evolution of a business recognised for its expertise and impact. Alongside a collaborative culture, the organisation offers flexibility, professional mentorship, autonomy and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in a rapidly expanding market.
