Job summary

The ACT Government Office of Nature Conservation seeks a Senior Director to provide strategic leadership, integrating policy, science, and data to improve biodiversity outcomes across the ACT. The role reports to the Executive Group Manager of Environment, Heritage and Parks and leads governance, staff, and resources.

Qualifications

• Teritary qualifications in ecology or related discipline.
• Extensive leadership experience.
• Experience in experimental design and statistical analysis.
• Experience in the ACT government or other NRM agencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, implementation and continuous improvement of conservation strategies, frameworks and statutory instruments.
• Oversee research, monitoring, evaluation and reporting frameworks to ensure evidence-based investment.
• Oversee threatened species and community recovery planning in partnership with agencies and communities.
• Provide leadership to embed conservation considerations in planning, infrastructure and land use decisions.
• Represent ACT in forums and negotiations, influencing policy reform and maintaining relationships with Commonwealth, state and regional bodies.
• Ensure governance, probity and statutory compliance, including Secretariat support for the ACT Scientific Committee.
• Build capability in conservation planning, ecological science, data stewardship and adaptive management.
• Lead, manage and develop staff, finances and information resources with a safe, high-performing culture.
