Job description

Lead with purpose. Strengthen regional primary health care. Help improve health and wellbeing across diverse communities.

Country to Coast Queensland (CCQ) is seeking an inspirational, accomplished and values-led Chief Executive Officer to guide the organisation through its next chapter.

This is a significant opportunity to lead an independent, not-for-profit organisation working to strengthen primary health care across one of Queensland’s largest and most diverse regions. CCQ delivers the Australian Government’s Primary Health Network program for Central Queensland, Wide Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

Reporting to the Board, you will lead an organisation that demands innovation and excellence in its pursuit to understand community needs, commission primary health care services, support providers and connect people, organisations and systems around better health.

We are looking for a leader with the judgement, strategic perspective and relationships to navigate complexity, turn insight into action and ensure CCQ continues to make a meaningful difference across the communities it serves.

About the opportunity

As Chief Executive Officer, you will work closely with the Board to shape CCQ’s strategic direction and translate it into clear priorities, strong organisational performance and measurable impact.

You will lead CCQ’s people, partnerships, investments and operations, ensuring the organisation remains responsive to community needs, accountable for public funding and equipped to contribute to a changing primary health care system.

Your leadership will span:
  • strategy, organisational performance and delivery
  • equitable and place-based commissioning
  • partnerships across primary care, hospitals, community services, government and communities
  • financial stewardship, governance, risk and regulatory compliance
  • organisational capability, culture and workforce
  • evidence, data, digital enablement and innovation
  • strategic influence and advocacy for the needs of the region
  • strong and trusted relationships with the Board, funders, partners, providers and communities.

You will lead a capable executive team and foster a culture where people are connected to purpose, clear about expectations and supported to perform at their best.

We are looking for an executive leader who brings:
  • senior leadership experience within a complex health, human services, government or public-purpose environment
  • the ability to work effectively with a Board and contribute to strong governance, accountability and strategic decision-making
  • a sophisticated understanding of primary health care, health-system reform, commissioning or other complex service systems
  • demonstrated financial and commercial acumen, including stewardship of significant public funding, contracts and organisational resources
  • experience leading organisational performance, transformation and sustainable capability
  • the ability to build trusted relationships and align diverse interests across government, primary care, health services, community organisations and communities
  • a strong commitment to equity, reconciliation and respectful partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations
  • sound judgement, political awareness and the confidence to represent CCQ with credibility and influence
  • a leadership style that combines clarity and accountability with curiosity, collaboration and respect.

Direct experience within a Primary Health Network or health commissioning organisation will be highly regarded but is not essential.

The Chief Executive Officer will be based on the Sunshine Coast, with regular travel across Central Queensland, Wide Bay and the Sunshine Coast, as well as interstate travel when required.

This is a full-time, maximum-term appointment with a competitive executive remuneration package.

About CCQ

CCQ exists to improve health and wellbeing across our region through responsive and connected primary health care.

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation delivering the Australian Government’s Primary Health Network (PHN) program across Central Queensland, Wide Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

Much of CCQ’s work happens behind the scenes. We use data, evidence and local insight to understand health needs, commission services, support primary health care providers and help connect care across services, sectors and communities.

We work alongside communities, general practice, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, pharmacies, allied health providers, hospitals, community organisations and governments to:

  • support prevention and earlier action
  • improve access to responsive primary health care
  • strengthen primary health care capability and sustainability
  • connect care and systems
  • partner and influence for better health.

We apply an equity lens to our work, responding to the different strengths, needs and experiences of communities across our region. We are committed to reconciliation and to building respectful, enduring relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations.
