Job Description

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor and based at the Lytton Refinery in Brisbane, this Shift Chemist role operates as part of a team responsible for delivering laboratory sampling and testing in support of Ampol operations. The role ensures finished products are produced, managed, and released in accordance with required specifications, while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency. Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake sampling activities for Jet Fuel, Wastewater Treatment Plant, LPG, test runs, and process gas streams as required.
  • Carry out safe and accurate sampling that represents process streams, complies with regulatory and external requirements, and may involve working at heights, accessing elevated platforms, and using respiratory protection equipment.

Ideally you bring experience working as a Chemist within an Oil & Gas or other hazardous facility and consistently demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and compliance. You are technically capable, detail‑focused, and able to apply sound problem‑solving skills to support laboratory operations, product quality, and continuous improvement. • Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems and good laboratory practices, supported by a bachelor’s degree in science (Chemistry desirable).
Additional Information
  • Our total remuneration is competitive, across base salary, a performance incentive, employee share offers and a 25% discount on fuel for two privately used cars.
  • We are flexible. Many of our teams have embraced hybrid work, balancing time spent remote working, with time spent at an office to connect and work together where it adds value.
  • Remote Working: Support for up to 3 months remote international working (conditional to 5 days paid leave for every 30 days of remote work).
  • We value recognition. We have an internal recognition platform amplifying the achievements of those who do great work and demonstrate our capabilities and values.
