Job summary

Service Stream is recruiting a Cathodic Protection Technician to join our Ringwood team. Based in Ringwood, VIC, this permanent full-time role focuses on monitoring, maintaining, and enhancing corrosion protection across critical gas infrastructure assets.

Reporting to the Cathodic Protection Supervisor, you will lead field measurements, data analysis, and contractor coordination while ensuring safety, compliance, and asset integrity. A strong technical background is essential.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/ACA/Electrical trade with several years in pipeline corrosion.
  • Experience with DCVG, field testing and data logging.
  • Ability to interpret field data and prepare technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain corrosion protection systems for asset integrity.
  • Assess risk and prioritise work programs for network safety.
  • Plan and coordinate contractors for field data collection.
  • Conduct accurate field measurements with specialised equipment.

Service Stream's Utilities division is seeking an experienced Cathodic Protection Technician to join our growing team in Ringwood, Victoria.

Reporting to the Cathodic Protection Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and effective operation of corrosion protection systems across critical gas infrastructure assets. This position offers the opportunity to work with specialised equipment, provide technical expertise, and contribute to the ongoing integrity and reliability of essential network infrastructure.

About the Role

As a Cathodic Protection Technician, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving corrosion protection systems to ensure network safety, compliance, and asset integrity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing risk and prioritising work programs to support network safety and integrity.
  • Planning and coordinating contractors involved in field data collection activities.
  • Conducting accurate field measurements using specialised cathodic protection testing equipment.
  • Analysing field data and implementing corrective actions to optimise system performance.
  • Recording and maintaining quality asset data to support lifecycle management.
  • Preparing timely reports to satisfy regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Providing training and technical guidance to contractors and field personnel.
  • Identifying trends in system performance and recommending remedial actions.
  • Conducting investigations, fault-finding, surveys, and analysis using specialised equipment.
  • Supporting the development and enhancement of corrosion protection systems.
  • Assessing electrical earthing and surge protection systems to ensure operational safety.
  • Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading cathodic protection infrastructure.
  • Calibrating and maintaining specialised testing equipment in accordance with industry standards.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
About You

You are a technically capable and safety-focused professional with experience in pipeline corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems.

Desired Experience
  • Extensive experience conducting cathodic protection testing on transmission and reticulation pipelines.
  • Experience coordinating cathodic protection field testing, including Victorian Electrolysis Committee (VEC) area testing and foreign structure interference testing.
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking coating assessment surveys using DCVG equipment.
  • Experience using Pipeline-to-Foreign Earth Contact location equipment.
  • Experience operating and maintaining field-based data logging systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian standards, industry codes, and quality systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret field data and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proven ability to prepare detailed technical reports and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience training and mentoring contractors and field personnel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Sound computer and data management skills.
Desired Qualifications

You will hold one of the following:

  • Diploma in Electrical, Civil, or Engineering (or equivalent) with at least four years' pipeline corrosion experience; or
  • Australian Corrosion Association (ACA) Corrosion Technician Certificate with a minimum of five years' pipeline corrosion experience; or
  • Electrical trade qualification with at least five years' pipeline corrosion experience and a willingness to obtain the ACA Corrosion Technician Certificate.

Additionally, you will hold:

  • Current Victorian Driver Licence.
