Job summary

Hunter Valley Grammar School in Maitland, NSW, is seeking a casual Strength and Conditioning Coach to join the Rowing program after school. The S&C Coach will oversee, manage, coordinate, and deliver S&C sessions and programs to students involved in school sport, particularly the Rowing program.

Work pattern: casual role with availability Monday to Thursday afternoons from 3:30pm onwards during school terms is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• ASCA Level 1 or equivalent is required.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification is required.
• Working with Children Check is required.
• Strong knowledge of strength training techniques for school-aged children.
• Excellent written and verbal communication is essential.

Responsibilities

• Deliver after-school strength and conditioning sessions for Rowing program.
• Collaborate with Director/Head Coach of Rowing to plan and run sessions.
• Promote and record-keeping related to S&C activities.
• Support the Elite Athlete Program and Co-Curricular S&C as needed.
• Keep Rowing students and families informed and engaged.

About the Role

Passionate about strength and conditioning, rowing and coaching? Hunter Valley Grammar School is hiring a casual Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our Rowing team.

The Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach is directly responsible to the Head of Co-Curricular Sport K-12. The S&C Coach will oversee, manage, coordinate, and deliver S&C sessions and programs to students involved in school sporting teams, particularly the HVGS Rowing program.

Work Pattern: This is a casual position, candidates with availability Monday to Thursday afternoons from 3:30pm onwards during school terms is highly desirable.

Key Duties

• Collaboratively work with the Director of Rowing and Head Coach of Rowing to deliver after school group S&C sessions for students in the Rowing program

• General administrative duties including but not limited to promotion and record-keeping

• Challenge talented athletes with advanced techniques and provide support to students with poor core development

• Develop and maintain a working relationship with all Rowing students and families

• When required, available to support with additional before and after school S&C sessions for students involved in the Elite Athlete Program (EAP) and Co-Curricular S&C sessions.

About You

• A minimum ASCA Level 1 or equivalent (required)

• A current CPR/First Aid Certificate (required)

• Hold a current Working with Children Check (required)

• A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for Junior and Senior school populations

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster and build relationships with key stakeholders

• Self-directed, with the ability to work autonomously and with minimal direction

• Ability to:

  • work in a dynamic team environment

  • provide support to a small group or individual students in basic skills as required

  • motivate children to participate in unfamiliar or challenging activities

  • redirect students into appropriate behaviours during activities

  • maintain safe work practices
