Job summary

John Paul College International is seeking a casual Senior College Nurse to cover planned and unplanned absences in our Health Centre, delivering high-quality nursing care to students and staff in a supportive team environment.

Casual shifts are arranged based on Health Centre needs and your availability, with overtime paid for emergent situations. The role includes emergency first aid, medications management, health records, and guidance to the nursing team.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with current AHPRA registration.
• Senior First Aid Certificate / CPR and Defibrillation Certificate.
• Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
• Queensland Unrestricted Driver's Licence.
• Minimum 3 years' nursing experience, preferably in a school/paediatric or healthcare setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills with ability to manage competing priorities.
• Understanding of Child Protection legislation.
• Commitment to the College's mission and values.
• Ability to build and maintain professional relationships across the College community.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary health care and emergency first aid to students, staff and visitors.
• Manage and administer medications and health procedures, maintain confidential health records.
• Provide clinical guidance and support to nursing staff.
• Support students with chronic health conditions and liaise with health professionals as needed.
• Liaise with parents, students, staff and external health agencies; participate in meetings and case conferences.
• Provide training and health education to staff and promote wellness initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with health regulations and Child Protection requirements.
• Support health centre risk management and safety planning.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-run Health Centre.

Our Health Centre provides comprehensive health care and first aid to students, staff and visitors. As a casual Senior College Nurse, you will cover planned and unplanned absences, bringing strong clinical experience and the ability to guide and support other nursing staff within a dedicated team.

Casual shifts are offered as required, based on the needs of the Health Centre and your availability. All shifts and any additional hours are discussed and approved by the Nurse Manager prior to engagement, and overtime for emergent situations is paid in accordance with the Award.

About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing primary health care and emergency first aid to students, staff and visitors in line with professional nursing standards, College policies and legislation.
• Managing and administering medications and health care procedures, maintaining accurate and confidential health records.
• Providing clinical guidance and support to other members of the nursing team.
• Supporting students with chronic health conditions, referring to appropriate health care professionals and services where required.
• Liaising with parents, students, staff and external health agencies, and participating in relevant meetings and case conferences.
• Providing training and advice to school staff on health-related matters, and promoting healthy lifestyles and wellness initiatives across the College community.
• Ensuring compliance with health regulations, College policies and Child Protection requirements, fulfilling the responsibilities of a Student Protection Officer.
• Supporting risk management and health and safety planning for the Health Centre.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and well-run Health Centre.

About You

Working closely with teachers, administrators and parents, you will provide comprehensive nursing care, health education and support services, while also supporting nursing colleagues to ensure exceptional care across the community.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• A Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with current AHPRA registration.
• A current Senior First Aid Certificate / Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Defibrillation Certificate.
• A current paid Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
• A current Queensland Unrestricted Driver's Licence.
• A minimum of 3 years' experience in a nursing role, ideally in a school, paediatric or healthcare setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey health information clearly and compassionately.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
• A sound understanding of, and commitment to, Child Protection legislation.
• A commitment to actively support the mission and values of the College.
• The ability to build and maintain effective, professional working relationships across the College community.
