Job description

WE'RE HIRING! Casual Early Learning Photographers
Join the Five Graces Photography team in 2027!

Love photography? Love kids? Have a playful personality and a knack for making little people laugh? We want to meet you!

Five Graces Photography is a growing, Victorian-owned photography company specialising in natural, joyful and child-led photography in early learning centres and kindergartens.

We're expanding our team for 2027 and beyond, and we're looking for talented, energetic and genuinely lovely people to join us as Casual Early Learning Photographers.

Our photographers travel to early learning centres across Geelong, Ballarat, Werribee, Melbourne, Bendigo and surrounding regions, capturing the little moments that make childhood so special.

With Five Graces expanding interstate, there may also be exciting opportunities for photographers who love to travel!

We're Not Your Traditional Kinder Photographers!

At Five Graces, we believe the best photographs happen when children are simply being themselves.

We don't expect children to sit perfectly still, force a smile or perform for the camera.

Instead, we get down on their level, join in their games, follow their lead and capture their personalities as they naturally unfold.

One minute you might be building a tower of blocks, the next you're making silly noises to encourage a giggle, and five minutes later you're sitting in the sandpit photographing a toddler completely absorbed in their world.

It's fun, fast-paced, sometimes messy and incredibly rewarding!

We offer four different photography experiences, from our signature play-based sessions to modern portrait-style photography, mini play-based sessions and sibling photography.

Every child is different, and our photographers need to be able to adapt their approach to help each child feel happy, comfortable and confident.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is just as wonderful with children as they are behind a camera.

Our ideal photographer is:

  • Fun, playful and full of personality – you genuinely enjoy making children laugh and feel special.

  • Patient, gentle and understanding – you recognise that some children need extra time, reassurance or a different approach.

  • Energetic and physically active – you're happy sitting on the floor, crawling around, getting up and down constantly and keeping up with busy little people.

  • Creative and adaptable – you can find beautiful photographic opportunities in everyday childhood activities.

  • Confident and personable – you communicate warmly and professionally with educators, children and families.

  • Organised and efficient – you can work within a busy photography schedule without making children feel rushed.

  • Reliable and responsible – you understand that our centres, families and fellow team members are counting on you.

  • A genuine team player – you're happy to help others, take direction and represent Five Graces with pride.

Experience working with children who have additional needs is particularly valued. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive, supportive photography experience where every child is respected.

And importantly, you must be completely comfortable with the realities of working with little people — messy faces, runny noses, sunscreen, sand, unpredictable moods and all!

Photography Skills & Experience

We're looking for photographers who have:

  • Experience with natural light photography.

  • A strong understanding of exposure, composition and camera settings.

  • The ability to work confidently in changing indoor and outdoor lighting conditions.

  • The ability to capture sharp, well-composed images of children who rarely stop moving!

  • Confidence using professional photography equipment.

  • An eye for genuine expressions, beautiful details and natural storytelling.

Experience in children's, family, lifestyle or early learning photography is highly regarded.

Your own professional mirrorless camera is preferred.

While strong photography skills are important, we also know that technical skills can be developed. A wonderful personality, natural connection with children and genuine passion for the work are equally important to us.

No Editing Required!

Love taking photographs but don't love spending hours behind a computer editing them? Neither do we expect you to!

At Five Graces, our photographers focus on what they do best — photographing children and creating beautiful memories.

All image editing and post-production are handled separately, so there's no editing required as part of your role.

We also provide full training in our photography styles, systems, workflows and child-safe practices, so you'll feel confident and supported before heading out to centres.

Location, Travel & Availability

Positions commence in 2027.

Our photographers work across multiple early learning centres, so flexibility and reliable transport are essential.

You must:

  • Be available 3–5 weekdays per week, Monday to Friday.

  • Be available for starts around 9:30am, with most days finishing in the early afternoon.

  • Be able to travel to different early learning centres across our Victorian service areas.

  • Have a current driver's licence and your own reliable car — essential.

  • Be dependable and available for your scheduled Photo Weeks.

  • Be comfortable with the physical demands of photographing young children.

Bonus: We're expanding Five Graces Photography interstate! If you're interested in occasional travel opportunities outside Victoria, we'd love to hear about it.

This is a casual, school-term-based position, with school holidays generally free.

It's a fantastic opportunity for photographers running their own business, parents looking for work that fits around school hours, or anyone wanting a rewarding photography role with variety and flexibility.

What Will Your Day Look Like?

No two Photo Weeks are ever quite the same!

You'll be:

  • Photographing babies, toddlers and kindergarten-aged children in their early learning environments.

  • Capturing beautiful, natural moments through play-based and portrait-style photography.

  • Helping children feel comfortable, included and excited about their photography experience.

  • Working alongside educators to create a positive, organised Photo Week.

  • Paying attention to the little details — clean faces, tidy fringes and natural expressions.

  • Following our child-safe photography procedures and consent requirements.

  • Working closely with our head office team to ensure a consistent, professional experience for every centre.

No editing, no client sales and no managing customer orders — just photography!

Above all, you'll be helping create memories that families will treasure for years to come.

Essential Requirements

Successful applicants must have, or be willing to obtain:

  • A valid Working With Children Check.

  • A National Police Check.

  • A current driver's licence.

  • Access to their own reliable vehicle.

  • The ability to work legally in Australia.

A genuine commitment to child safety, privacy, professionalism and respectful interactions with children is absolutely essential.

Why Join Five Graces Photography?

We're proud of the wonderful team we've built, and we genuinely believe happy photographers create happy photography experiences.

Here’s what we offer:

  • Flexible casual work during school terms, with school holidays generally free.

  • Weekday hours, usually finishing in the early afternoon.

  • Competitive hourly rates.

  • No editing or post-production required.

  • Full training provided in our photography approach, systems and child-safe practices.

  • Paid practical trial as part of our recruitment process for shortlisted applicants.

  • Regular photography opportunities during scheduled Photo Weeks.

  • Rosters and schedules provided in advance.

  • A friendly, supportive and experienced team.

  • Opportunities to develop your skills in early learning photography.

  • Potential interstate travel opportunities as our business continues to grow.

  • The chance to work for a creative, growing Australian business that genuinely values its people.

And perhaps the best part?

You get to spend your working day making little people smile, being creative and capturing moments that matter.

Sound Like Your Kind of Job?

We'd love to hear from you!

Please email us with:

  • A little introduction about yourself and why you'd love to work with Five Graces.

  • Your photography experience and any experience working with young children.

  • A link to your photography portfolio or examples of your work, if available.

  • Your location, weekday availability and willingness to travel.

Our Recruitment Process

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in a paid practical photography trial, giving you the opportunity to experience our photography approach and giving us the chance to see your skills and personality in action.

All required child-safety checks must be completed before participating in photography sessions with children.
