Job summary

Downer at RAAF Richmond is seeking a skilled Carpenter to support base and estate services. You will undertake carpentry, fitting, and basic maintenance within a Defence environment, ensuring buildings and equipment meet required standards.

This permanent role values safety, reliability, and collaboration, with opportunities for training and career progression within a large, established Australian company.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Carpentry.
• Post-trade experience in carpentry and/or mechanical fitting in a facilities maintenance environment.
• Working at Heights qualification (desirable).
• Defence Security Clearance eligibility (Australian citizenship mandatory).

Responsibilities

• Undertake carpentry, fitting, and minor maintenance works at a Defence base, ensuring buildings, structures, plant and equipment are maintained to required standards.
• Perform carpentry, joinery and basic building works including repairs, installation and maintenance of structures and fixtures.
• Deliver both preventative and responsive works in accordance with statutory, contractual and safety requirements, applying trade expertise across carpentry, and general facility upkeep.
• Ensure a safe working environment for all stakeholders including colleagues, customers, and the general public.

Downer has been awarded the Property and Asset Services (PAS) contract to deliver base and estate services across their two largest regions NSW/ACT and QLD. This is a significant milestone for our business and our enduring 80+ year relationship with the Australian Defence Force.

What You'll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key responsibilities including:

• Undertake carpentry, fitting, and minor maintenance works at a single Defence base, ensuring buildings, structures, plant and equipment are maintained to required standards.
• Perform carpentry, joinery and basic building works including repairs, installation and maintenance of structures and fixtures
• Deliver both preventative and responsive works in accordance with statutory, contractual and safety requirements, applying trade expertise across carpentry, and general facility upkeep
• Ensure a safe working environment for all stakeholders including colleagues, customers, and the general public.

What You'll Bring

• Certificate III in Carpentry
• Post-trade experience in carpentry and/or mechanical fitting within a facilities maintenance environment
• Working at Heights qualification (desirable)
• Demonstrated experience in preventative and corrective maintenance of building structures, fixtures and mechanical plant / equipment
• Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or equivalent mechanical fitting qualification (desirable)
• Current Open Driver's Licence.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship is mandatory)
