Job summary

Certis Security Australia is seeking Cargo Screeners for Melbourne Airport to perform electronic and physical cargo screening in line with aviation security regulations. Responsibilities

• Operate X-ray screening and detection equipment.
• Interpret X-ray images and identify prohibited items.
• Conduct physical inspections of cargo as needed.
• Conduct ETD screening as required.
• Maintain screening records and documentation.
• Follow SOPs and regulatory requirements.
• Report and raise security incidents.
• Conduct routine equipment checks.
• Participate in shift briefings and handovers.

Job Impact

We are seeking professional and detail-oriented Cargo Screeners to join our Aviation Security team at Melbourne Airport.

Candidates who hold current TSP Accreditation or Passenger Screening credentials are encouraged to apply.

In this role, you will help protect the aviation supply chain by screening cargo, identifying potential threats and ensuring compliance with aviation security requirements.

About the Role

Employment Type: Casual

Location: Melbourne Airport

Roster: Cargo screening sessions are currently conducted Monday to Thursday, with shifts commencing at 1500, 1700 and 1900.

Pay Rate: Security Award Level 3 (AWL 3) plus applicable aviation allowances.

As a Cargo Screener, you will conduct electronic and physical screening of cargo in accordance with aviation security regulations and Certis operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate X-ray screening and detection equipment
• Interpret X-ray images and identify prohibited items
• Conduct physical inspections of cargo when required
• Conduct ETD (Explosive Trace Detection) screening as required
• Maintain screening records and documentation
• Follow SOPs and regulatory requirements
• Report and raise security incidents
• Conduct routine equipment checks
• Participate in shift briefings and handovers

About You

You are a reliable and security-focused professional with strong attention to detail and a commitment to compliance.

You will bring:

• Current Victorian Security Licence
• Current TSP Accreditation or Passenger Screening Accreditation/Credentials
• Strong communication and report-writing skills
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility to work across rostered afternoon and evening shifts
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods and conduct inspections

Highly Regarded

• Aviation security or cargo screening experience
• X-ray screening experience
• Driver's Licence
• Logistics, freight or transport industry experience

Training & Accreditation

Successful applicants who do not already hold Cargo Screening accreditation will complete a paid training pathway funded by Certis, including:

• 24-hour online Cargo Screening course
• 40 hours of supervised On-the-Job Training (OJT)
• 4-hour accreditation assessment

Successful completion of all training and accreditation requirements is mandatory before undertaking Cargo Screening duties independently.
