Job summary

Alcoa in Portland, NSW, is seeking a Capital Project Engineer to lead and coordinate capital projects, from planning through delivery, ensuring safety and alignment with business objectives.

You will develop Front End Loading strategies, manage budgets, procurement and contractor performance, and engage stakeholders across multi-disciplinary teams. The role offers strong remuneration, bonus potential, career development and a supportive leave program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical fields.
  • Brownfield project experience in heavy industry preferred.
  • Proven track record in project management and coordination.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate capital projects from planning to closure.
  • Develop FEL and contracting strategies for efficient delivery.
  • Facilitate Asset Owner led teams for operable solutions.
  • Engage stakeholders to ensure ownership and timely input.
  • Ensure compliance with project delivery procedures and processes.

  • Monitor progress with forecasts and timely stakeholder updates.

About the Role

We're seeking a dedicated Capital Project Engineer to join our team at our Portland Smelter. As a Project Engineer, you'll be accountable for managing and coordinating capital projects, ensuring their safe and successful delivery while meeting business objectives.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Lead and coordinate assigned capital projects, from planning and forecasting to project closure.
  • Develop Front End Loading (FEL) and project contracting strategies for efficient project delivery.
  • Facilitate Asset Owner led teams to ensure operable and maintainable project solutions.
  • Engage stakeholders in project delivery procedures and processes to ensure their contribution and ownership.
  • Ensure compliance with Alcoa project delivery procedures and processes, continually improving and streamlining as needed.
  • Manage project budgets, pricing, procurement, and contractor management strategies.
  • Monitor project progress, providing accurate forecasting and timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Maintain audit compliance with project delivery processes and procedures.

What you can bring to the role
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical or Electrical).
  • Track record of managing brownfield projects within a heavy industry setting.
  • Proven experience in project management and coordination.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to collaborate at all levels of our operations.
  • Knowledge of project planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Ability to lead teams and drive projects to successful completion.
