Job summary

Queensland Corrective Services is seeking a Custodial Correctional Officer Dog Handler in Woodford, Queensland. You will be responsible for dog handling, security operations, and maintaining welfare and records for canine units.

The role requires leadership, incident response, and teamwork within a 24/7 environment, with a focus on safety, compliance, and collaboration with law enforcement partners.

Qualifications

• Exposure to or understanding of contemporary approaches to working with dogs and their welfare.
• Leadership with the ability to motivate and encourage others to meet challenging work roles.
• Experience in or exposure to a criminal justice environment or similar human services area.
• Experience in managing and coordinating a wide range of operational and security functions.
• Decision making and reasoning under pressure, ethical work, and resilience.
• Self-management with control over personal feelings and reactions.
• Teamwork with diverse audiences and collaboration.
• Basic IT skills and willingness to learn internal databases and MS Office.
• Planning and organising to meet deadlines and procedures.
• Problem solving with initiative in independent and team settings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain in safe working condition any weapon, equipment and vehicle issued by QCS.
• Maintain strict control of all issued security equipment within your area of responsibility.
• Maintain accurate records of veterinary treatment, inoculations, medications, worming programs and other medical information for the corrected Services Dog in the Record of Service booklet.
• Work in a 24x7 environment and respond promptly to emergencies or security breaches.
• Perform foot and mobile patrols of QCS facilities.
• Enforce the Agency's drug strategy by detecting and deterring trafficking of drugs and contraband.
• Participate in special operations in conjunction with security branches of QCS, Police and other government agencies.
