RSPCA NSW is seeking a Canine Behaviour and Rehabilitation (Foster and Intake) professional in Sydney to support foster and intake programs. You will work with senior advisers and shelter staff to manage canine behaviour in foster homes or during seizures, and develop individualised care plans.

You will conduct welfare evaluations, maintain thorough records, and liaise with adopters and carers, providing guidance during home transitions. Strong collaboration with veterinary teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field that includes companion animal behaviour, animal welfare and/or Certificate IV Behaviour and Training or Companion Animal Studies or Companion Animal Behaviour (or working toward qualification through active course enrolment).
• Current Class C driver’s license.
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in an animal welfare facility.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate helpfully and respectfully and to teach and guide in the areas of animal behaviour and welfare as per RSPCA NSW organisational policy.

Responsabilités

• Collaborate with Senior Canine and Feline Behaviour Advisors, Shelter Managers, Post Adoption and in Home Care Manager to manage the behaviour of animals in foster homes or during large inspectorate seizures.
• Implement strategies and individualised care plans and liaise with the Canine Behaviour Advisor for animals under supervision.
• Foster a collaborative relationship with adopters, foster carers or the public, providing empathetic support during home transitions and clear guidance.
• Maintain detailed records of calls, cases and outcomes in the digital shelter or veterinary clinic management system.
• Conduct high quality remote and in-person evaluations of emotional health online or face-to-face.
• Provide a detailed evaluation of the support needs of the animal caregiver and animal using a risk-based approach.
• Work alongside veterinary and behaviour veterinary staff to ensure continuity of care during all stages of animal tracking.
• Facilitate appropriate handover with Canine Behaviour Advisor and Veterinary Staff when escalation is required.
• Support the foster care team and undertake administrative duties as required.
• Attend internal training courses and keep up to date with the latest research on canine/animal behaviour.
