Job description

Bring great hospitality to life and create a café experience where people feel genuinely welcome.

At our Campus in Westmead, our café is more than somewhere to grab a coffee or a meal. It’s a place for connection, conversation and community.

We’re looking for an experienced Campus Bar & Cafe Lead who loves great customer service and knows how to create a welcoming hospitality experience. You’ll be a visible, hands‑on presence in the café, working alongside the team and helping ensure residents, families, visitors and staff receive warm, consistent and attentive service every day.

Your role

This is a practical, customer‑facing leadership role where you’ll set the standard for service and help the team deliver it.

You’ll build relationships with our residents and customers, listen to their feedback and look for ways to make their café experience even better. You’ll also guide and support café staff, helping create a team culture where great service, presentation and genuine hospitality are simply how things are done.

Alongside the customer experience, you’ll help keep day‑to‑day café and bar operations running smoothly and contribute to service quality, customer engagement and commercial performance.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Creating a warm, welcoming and engaging experience for residents, families, visitors and staff.
  • Being a visible presence in the café, getting to know customers and building positive relationships.
  • Leading by example and supporting café staff to deliver consistently high standards of customer service.
  • Listening and responding to customer feedback and identifying practical ways to improve the café experience.
  • Coordinating day‑to‑day café and bar service, including team priorities and service expectations.
  • Supporting operational effectiveness through well‑organised workflows, appropriate use of resources, stock awareness and consistent day‑to‑day service delivery.
  • Maintaining high standards across food and beverage presentation, cleanliness, menus, signage and the overall café environment.
  • Supporting café events, resident functions and campus activities.
  • Helping implement new menus, service initiatives and improvements and supporting the team through change.
  • Contributing to customer engagement, café utilisation, sales and overall commercial performance.
  • Maintaining safe operations and supporting compliance with food safety, WHS and Responsible Service of Alcohol requirements.
About you

You’re someone who notices the customer who has been waiting, remembers a regular’s name and understands that how people feel when they visit matters just as much as what you serve them.

You’ll bring a genuine passion for service, along with the confidence to lead from the floor. You’re comfortable coaching others, solving problems as they arise and keeping a busy hospitality environment organised without losing the personal touch.

You’ll have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in hospitality, café, food service or a similar customer‑facing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering high‑quality customer service in a busy hospitality setting.
  • Experience providing day‑to‑day guidance, coaching or support to team members.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining service standards.
  • A practical and organised approach to operational effectiveness, with the ability to coordinate workflows, use resources efficiently and identify service improvements. A relevant hospitality qualification or equivalent experience.
  • A barista certificate, solid hands‑on barista experience, or a willingness to complete barista training.
  • An RSA Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A sound understanding of food safety, WHS and responsible service requirements.

Experience in aged care, retirement living or community services would be welcomed, as would experience supporting events or contributing to café sales, utilisation or other service improvements.
