Job summary

Shellharbour City Council offers a Civil Engineer Cadetship that combines paid practical experience with ongoing study. You’ll work with engineers across Engineering, Asset Strategy and our Oak Flats depot, gaining exposure to local government projects.

You must have completed at least four semesters of a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and be entering or in your third year to join this structured cadetship with mentoring and professional development.

• Completed at least four semesters (96 credit points) of a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil).
• Structured cadetship with mentoring, professional development and on‑the‑job training.

Responsibilities

• Support engineering teams across Engineering, Asset Strategy and Oak Flats Services Depot.
• Gain exposure to a broad range of local government engineering functions.
• Contribute to projects in road/transport, traffic engineering, flood and stormwater management, civil works and asset planning.

The Civil Engineer Cadetship is a structured training and development opportunity for students who have successfully completed at least four semesters (96 credit points) of a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and are about to commence or are currently undertaking their third year of study.

Combining paid practical experience with ongoing study, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and professionals across Engineering, Asset Strategy and our Oak Flats Services Depot, gaining valuable exposure to a broad range of local government engineering functions.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that shape the future of one of NSW's fastest growing cities. Gain hands‑on experience across areas such as:

• Road and transport infrastructure
• Traffic engineering
• Flood and stormwater management
• Civil works and construction projects
• Project delivery and asset planning and management

This is an opportunity to apply what you're learning at university to real projects that make a difference in the local community.

Through Council's Cadet, Apprentice and Trainee (CAT) Program, you'll receive ongoing mentoring, professional development and on-the-job training while completing your degree. • Temporary full time, 35 hours per week with access to flexi-time
• Commencing salary range from $1,116.30 - $1,279.60 per week (based on university progression)
