Job summary

Mid-Western Regional Council in Mudgee, NSW seeks a Building Surveyor to deliver certification services, assessments and inspections across the region. You will advise applicants and engage with stakeholders to ensure compliant development and timely decisions.

The role requires registration as a Building Surveyor – Restricted, a White Card, and strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills. Local government experience is valued and a positive community impact awaits.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying.
• Current registration as Building Surveyor – Restricted (All classes).
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical advice to diverse audiences.
• Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Digital literacy and sound decision-making ability.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical building certification expertise and advice to the community and internal stakeholders.
• Meet deadlines for assessment of applications and certificates.
• Deliver clear, accurate advice at the front counter and in discussions.
• Represent Council at meetings and guide development within the region.
• Coordinate inspections to meet EPA and statutory requirements.
• Promote Council values and perform additional duties as required.

Your new job

As a Building Surveyor, you'll provide professional building certification services for Council, assessing applications and statutory certificates, undertaking critical stage and other required inspections and delivering clear, practical building advice. You'll work closely with applicants, industry professionals, internal stakeholders and the wider community to resolve issues, support compliant development and ensure Council meets its legislative obligations.

Key Accountabilities

• To provide technical building and certification expertise and advice to the community and internal stakeholders onbuilding certification related matters.
• Tomeet the deadlines associated with the assessment of applications and otherstatutory certificates and applications as required.
• Toprovide excellence in customer service through the efficient delivery of clearand accurate advice at the front counter, in pre-development applicationdiscussions and general correspondence.
• RepresentCouncil at meetings and meet with members of the public to effectively guidedevelopment within the region and achieve good quality building outcomes.
• Toco-ordinate inspections as required to ensure thatCouncil meets its obligations regarding on-sitedisposal of waste and other legislative requirements.
• Toensure that Council meets its commitments under the EPA Act relating tobuilding control.
• Toactively promote and demonstrate the core values and behavioural requirementsof the Workplace Environment Statement.
• Other duties as reasonablyrequested in line with the scope and outputs of this role.

About you

• Tertiary qualifications (or similar) in Building Surveying.
• Minimum one (1) years’experience in a Local Government or Private sector building certification.
• Class C Drivers Licence
• Current registration (accreditation) as a Building Surveyor – Restricted (All classes of Buildings) (A3)
• General Construction Induction Card (White card) or willing to obtain
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact at all levels on technical advice and policy issues to both internal and external clients
• Proven ability to perform successful negotiation and conflict resolution to achieve satisfactory outcomes
• Proven ability in the use of effective decision making and problem-solving techniques/processes
• Proven digital literacy skills

Salary and Benefits

The salary range being offered for this full-time position is $3,746.80 - $4,216.80 gross per fortnight plus superannuation which equates to an annual salary of $97,416.80 - $109,636.80 gross plus superannuation (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).
