VACCA is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation supporting the Aboriginal community, with a focus on children and families. The BUABAH Practitioner role engages with families from pregnancy to six months, delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed support and connecting them to maternity, health and community services.
You will build trusted relationships, support decisions, and work with partners to ensure holistic care that strengthens families, culture and community outcomes.
The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. The VACCA team is committed to the organisation’s visions and values, passionately providing support, service and advocacy for our children and other vulnerable members of the community.
Our strength lies with our people.
The Bringing Up Aboriginal Babies At Home (BUABAH) program supports Aboriginal families from pregnancy through to the first six months of their baby’s life, helping keep families strong, connected and thriving.
As a BUABAH Practitioner, you will walk alongside families from 16 weeks of pregnancy, providing culturally safe, trauma informed support that empowers parents to make decisions for themselves and their children. You will build trusted relationships, connect families with maternity, health and community supports, and work alongside key services to provide holistic care. Through a strengths based approach, you will help families share their story their way, strengthen self determination, and support the best possible outcomes for Aboriginal babies, families and communities.
You believe every Aboriginal family deserves to feel supported, heard and connected. You naturally build trust through yarning, deep listening and genuine relationships, and you enjoy walking alongside families as they prepare to welcome a new baby into their lives.
You are passionate about strengthening families and helping parents build confidence in their parenting journey. You support families to connect with culture, community and the services they need, while ensuring their voices remain at the centre of every decision. You are comfortable advocating for families, working collaboratively with partners, and creating culturally safe spaces where healing, hope and resilience can grow.
Most importantly, you bring warmth, compassion and a commitment to helping Aboriginal babies and families thrive, with strong connections to family, culture and community.
We are committed to Aboriginal self-determination and supporting strong, safe, thriving Aboriginal communities and aim to ensure every individual is treated with dignity, honouring all cultural backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities and spiritual beliefs.
VACCA is a child-safe organisation and is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people with zero tolerance for child abuse. All successful applicants will be required to undertake a National Police Record Check and Working with Children Check prior to commencement of employment and periodically following commencement.
