Job summary

Rio Tinto is seeking a Boilermaker to join the Main Workshop team at Weipa, FNQ. You will maintain and improve critical assets, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor on a 9-day fortnight roster in a safety-focused environment.

You will perform fabrications, welding and repairs on plant equipment, read drawings, mentor apprentices and contribute to continuous improvement. A strong safety mindset and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Fabricator.
• Demonstrated maintenance or workshop experience.
• Proficiency in MIG, TIG and stick welding; pipe welding desirable.
• Strong commitment to safe work practices.
• Customer-focused with attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Champion a strong safety culture and ensure work aligns with safety standards.
• Perform fabrication, welding and repair work on mobile and fixed plant equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Inspect equipment, identify maintenance needs and carry out repairs to required quality standards.
• Mentor apprentices and support the apprenticeship program.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping and contribute to a productive environment.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives.

About the role

Where you’ll be working

Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities,shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.

Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners toimplement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
