Job summary

CatholicCare Social Services Hunter Manning – Singleton NSW is seeking a compassionate Beyond the Gates Caseworker for a temporary full-time role based at St Catherine's Catholic College, Singleton until August 2027. You will work with the Wellbeing Team to support vulnerable students, strengthen family connections and improve overall wellbeing through outreach and home visits.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Beyond the Gates Caseworker to join our team in a temporary full-time position based at St Catherine's Catholic College, Singleton until August 2027.

Working closely with the school's Wellbeing Team, you will support vulnerable students to remain engaged in their education, strengthen family connections and improve overall wellbeing. As part of a collaborative partnership between CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning and the Catholic Schools Office, you will provide targeted case management, outreach and home visit support, helping students and families access the services they need to thrive.

This rewarding role extends the care and support of Catholic schools beyond the classroom, building stronger connections, improving wellbeing and creating positive outcomes for young people. Some after-hours work and collaboration with interagency networks will be required to provide responsive, holistic support.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Catholic Schools Office and CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning has formed a collaborative partnership to enhance the wellbeing of students and their families attending specific High Schools and feeder Primary Schools. The Beyond the Gates worker will be an employee of CatholicCare Social Services Hunter Manning (Clinical Services Team) but will be based at the nominated School in the Wellbeing Teams. The purpose of this position is to support and encourage vulnerable students to remain linked up with the schools and the wider communities. The role will involve community outreach and home visiting while working alongside families to enhance their engagement in services. The role will enhance the link between the schools and students. Catholic Schools are recognised as safe, disciplined, welcoming and caring communities, where paramount importance is given to building and nurturing quality relationships. Beyond the Gates extends this support and care into communities. The role will require some out of business hours work to create the best opportunities for engagement. It will also require networking activities with a range of other services across surrounding communities.

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
  • Commitment to work alongside CatholicCare’s mission, vision and values
  • An ability to effectively engage with disconnected students and their families
  • Sound understanding of Case Management and Case Coordination and person centred practices
  • A good understanding of the contributing factors to various types of disadvantage
  • An understanding of the current issues that many children and young people are facing
  • A clear understanding of child and adolescent development
  • A thorough understanding of the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with a range of diverse stake holders
  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • A high level of motivation and commitment to achieving outcomes
  • Willingness and ability to travel across school areas with flexible hours based on student and family needs
  • Access to use of a car with full comprehensive insurance
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Tertiary Qualifications Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, Teaching or similar disciplines
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • A commitment to work within WHS guidelines
  • Successful applicants must undergo a Police check
  • NSW Driver Licence
