Job summary

Belgian Beer Cafe Melbourne is seeking a skilled Beer Expert to join our Southbank team. This full-time role based in Southbank, VIC 3006 focuses on crafting exceptional cocktails, sharing knowledge of Belgian beers, and delivering outstanding hospitality to a diverse clientele.

As part of our venue, you’ll mentor junior staff, maintain high housekeeping and safety standards, handle BePoz POS transactions, and contribute to a welcoming European café atmosphere with a passion for craft beer

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a cocktail bartender in a fast-paced hospitality setting.
• Knowledge of cocktail recipes and mixology techniques.
• Strong beer knowledge, especially Belgian beers, and serving beverages to a high standard.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to engage guests.
• Proficient with BePoz POS and cash handling.
• RSA certification or willingness to obtain it.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve cocktails, beers, wines and spirits to professional standards.
• Operate BePoz POS accurately and process payments efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe bar environment with stock rotation.
• Engage with customers, provide recommendations and ensure satisfaction.

Belgian Beer Cafe Melbourne is seeking a skilled and passionate Beer Expert to join our dynamic team at our Southbank location. This is a full-time position based in Southbank, VIC 3006.

As a Bartender, you will be at the heart of our hospitality operation, advising customers on exciting unique beers, crafting exceptional cocktails and delivering outstanding customer service to our diverse clientele.

This role is pivotal to creating memorable experiences for our guests and maintaining the high standards Belgian Beer Cafe Melbourne is known for.

Key responsibilities

Preparing and serving a wide variety of cocktails, beers, wines and spirits to the highest professional standards

Operating the till system accurately and processing payments with efficiency and integrity

Maintaining a clean, organised and safe bar environment at all times, including proper stock management and rotation

Engaging with customers in a friendly and professional manner, providing recommendations and ensuring customer satisfaction

Monitoring and managing bar inventory, identifying stock requirements and assisting with ordering procedures

Following all health and safety regulations, including responsible service of alcohol guidelines

Working collaboratively with other bar staff, wait staff and kitchen team to ensure seamless service delivery

Training and mentoring junior bar staff where required

What we're looking for

Proven experience working as a cocktail bartender in a fast-paced hospitality environment, preferably in a bar or pub setting

reasonable knowledge of cocktail recipes, mixology techniques and classic cocktail preparation methods

Strong understanding of beer and beverage offerings, including Belgian beers and their characteristics

Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage customers and create a welcoming atmosphere

Proficiency in operating BePoz (POS) systems and cash handling procedures

Current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification or willingness to obtain it

Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to work effectively under pressure during busy service periods

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as carrying and lifting

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required

Preferred: Experience in a European or themed bar environment and knowledge of Belgian beer culture
