Job summary

XPT Software Australia is seeking an Azure Engineer to deliver advanced cloud solutions across enterprise environments. You will design, implement, optimise, and support Azure workloads, working with architects, security and operations teams to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant platforms.

You will automate deployments with Bicep, ARM, Terraform, and Azure DevOps, implement landing zones and governance, and mentor teams to uplift cloud engineering capabilities.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience engineering Azure cloud platforms in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of Azure IaaS and PaaS services including compute, storage, networking, and identity.
• Hands-on experience designing landing zones and cloud governance.
• Experience with automation and scripting: PowerShell, Python, Bicep, Terraform, ARM.
• Familiarity with security controls and zero-trust models.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimise Azure cloud platforms (IaaS, PaaS, storage, networking, identity).

• Troubleshoot across hybrid, multi-cloud, and on-prem environments.
• Produce documentation and runbooks; ensure operational readiness.
• Mentor engineering and operations teams; drive process improvements.

This is a remote position.

The Azure Engineer provides advanced engineering expertise across Azure cloud platforms. The role focuses on designing, implementing, optimising, and supporting cloud workloads and platform services across enterprise environments. The engineer works closely with architects, operations, security, and application teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions aligned with organisational standards and cloud architecture best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimise Azure cloud platforms including IaaS, PaaS, storage, networking, and identity services.
• Implement and maintain Azure landing zones, cloud governance, resource organisation, and policy-based controls.
• Contribute to cloud architecture decisions and ensure designs align with best practices and enterprise standards.
• Automate cloud deployment and configuration using tools such as Bicep, ARM templates, Terraform, or Azure DevOps.
• Implement Azure networking components such as VNets, ExpressRoute, Firewalls, Load Balancers, and Private Endpoints.
• Support identity and access management in Azure using Azure AD, RBAC, Conditional Access, and Managed Identities.
• Monitor and optimise cloud performance, reliability, and cost across Azure workloads.
• Troubleshoot complex cloud platform and infrastructure issues across hybrid, multi-cloud, and on-premises integrated environments.
• Implement and maintain security controls aligned with cloud security frameworks and zero-trust principles.
• Participate in cloud migration activities, including assessment, planning, and cutover execution.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation including design artefacts, procedures, and operational runbooks.
• Work with project and operations teams to ensure solutions are operationally ready and properly transitioned into service.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and capability uplift across engineering and operations teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of cloud engineering processes, governance, and automation frameworks.

Required Professional And Technical Expertise

• Extensive experience engineering Azure cloud platforms in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of Azure IaaS and PaaS services including compute, storage, networking, and identity.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing Azure landing zones and cloud governance structures.
• Demonstrated experience with automation and scripting such as PowerShell, Python, Bicep, Terraform, or ARM.
• Strong knowledge of Azure networking including VNets, ExpressRoute, NSGs, routing, and firewalls.
• Experience implementing cloud security controls, identity management, and zero-trust models.
• Proven experience troubleshooting cloud platform and integration issues across hybrid environments.
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and architecture-aligned designs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience working in enterprise, government, or regulated environments.
• Required Australian Citizenship and Mandatory AGSVA NV1 Clearance.
• Mandatory 5 days a week on client site

Desirable Skills

• Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, or AZ-500.
• Experience with DevOps pipelines, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps CI/CD.
• Understanding of FinOps and cloud cost optimisation strategies.
• Experience with multi-cloud environments including AWS or GCP.
• Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and cloud strategy development.
• Experience in government, defence, or critical infrastructure environments.
